Charging for Diagnostic Fee

Wow that's way more than I would have done to be nice. In this case I was more trusting than normal because I was dealing with a business.

When I got his email, I was SHOCKED, and taken back. I could not believe he had the nerve to send that to me. Especially after like literally 3-4 phone calls and 4-5 in depth emails. This guy is a total loser and jerk. I wish I knew what he did for a living, I'd call his work and ask him if he works for free.

I love how he said we (computer techs) charge "outrageous" prices. Computer techs charge the least amount in any industry, just because people generally have no respect for our knowledge, training, etc.

You go to a car repair shop, they charge you $75 to $100, just to hook up the scanner to tell you what codes your engine computer has in it. This doesn't include any repairs, and takes 5 minutes.

A plumber, Electrician, HVAC, etc, charges $75 - $100 trip fee just to come to your home, which does not include any repairs.

We (computer techs), can spend 3-4 hours on removing bad viruses, properly cleaning, optimizing, perform all the updates, ensure antivirus is installed and updated, etc, for a price that is nowhere near any other industry charges.

Since this happened, I limit how much info I offer, Unless they are a long time customer. Otherwise, I am not wasting a lot of time on no chance of a job.

Recurring customers get breaks. New clients don't get an ounce of support. I have no drop off, so I have to charge something for my time, but it varies from job to job.

ALWAYS set expectations with customers. I never check-in a customers system without telling them the actual price (if I'm not 100% sure, I quote high), the call back time frame, and completion time frame.

Informed customers become loyal and happy customers, because they see you have integrity in what you say and do.
