Change of business name advice?

First of all I have to say I appreciate what everyone does here with all of the help all of you provide to each other. I'm relatively new to the technibble forums so I haven't really posted too much on here.

Now back to the topic of my post. My business name is IT @ HOME (legally IT At Home) because I originally started with residential clients (and still do) and have picked up business clients along the way. Mostly in the video and music production industry. I want to begin advertising more and focus toward small to medium businesses, but my business name obviously doesn't look business oriented. I don't want to change the name because my residential clients are already familiar with it and the business clients that I already have. Any advice on what I should do? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would create a second business and website dedicated to the business side and then have the sites link together personally, but its really your call.

Pretty much this. When we first started out we were going to make our own backup servers and clients for customers to backup their important data to. We were also looking to do Wireless ISP work, so I have 2 different business names.

If you are already incorporated you can just do a DBA in your county courthouse and then for tax reasons it's all under one business but your LLC can cash the checks coming in for Second_Business_Names_R_Us

I'm not a lawyer or CPA, so take it with a grain of salt. If you have any questions about the legal aspects and taxes I'd seek the professional advice of a CPA and Lawyer.

Haha. Love it. I did actually think of that, but I'm not sure if I want to go with something modern and fun yet still professional sounding like Google does or a more serious sounding company. I'm leaning more toward a modern and fun sounding name.

Ok, Even if you don't use it I would still register it...... just in case someone else decides to try and get work off of your reputation..... Just a Thought
