hi,

I recently formatted my computer and haven't downloaded anything which could get me a virus. But maybe 2 days ago I downloaded DivX player but I just tried opening it yesterday. When I did the whole computer rebooted. I thought it was something else so I tried it again and it rebooted again. So I removed it from the computer and re-installed it but same thing happened.

I decided to just remove it and forget about it, but then my USB audio speaker stopped working. I was watching a filer on VLC and there was no sound so I checked in the control Panel and found that no audio device was detected in the first place. I went to the device manager and it has an exclamation mark next to it. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still it didn't work. Then I tried putting in its CD but it didn't autoplay so i went to my computer and the cd-rom drive wasn't even there. I went to the device manager again and even THAT had an exclamation mark next to it.

So I kind of give up trying by myself. Im sorry for the long request but can someone please help me?

It sounds like the DivX player installation upset your drivers in some way. I suggest you attempt a system restore as it usually fixes driver related issues.

Assuming this is XP..
Goto: Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Then Choose "Restore my system to an earlier time" then click next. Then choose a date before this error happened. It will restore your systems drivers to as they were on that date.

Thank you for ur reply.

I tried system restore before and it didn't work, so this time when I read ur post I did it again but I tried restoring it to a time I chose. It didn't work again, still the same problems.

Is there another way?

Right click on "My Computer", choose "Properties". Goto the "Hardware Tab" and press the "Device Manager" button.

Right click on the devices that have the exclamation mark next to them and choose "Properties".

Under the "General Tab" it will have the Device Status. What does it say?
