I had a strange problem today. I had 6 machines in the office for virus removal and amongst the 6 I had two machines with AVG and the owners were requesting something new. After the machines were cleaned I could not get AVG to uninstall. It would appear to uninstall then throw out the same error on both machines, one was XP and the other 7. The error code was 0xc0070643. I found that weird and while researching the problem (haven't found a working solution yet) I started uninstalling SuperAntiSpyware from some of the machines since I was done cleaning. On two of the machines it would not uninstall. One of them was a (different) Win 7 machine and the other was the same XP machine with the AVG uninstall problem. SAS didn't throw out an error, it would just go all the way through the uninstall process, open the usual SAS webpage in IE and then sit there. It would never disappear from the Add/Remove program list.

I ran Revouninstaller on all the machines and it showed SAS to be uninstalled on both...it showed up no where. But SAS was still starting when the pc booted, the shortcuts were all there and.....it worked. I could still run the program. I ran Revouninstalled on one of the AVG installations and it said it uninstalled it...but you guessed it, still there after a reboot but it appeared to be crippled. After that, Revo couldn't see it as installed.

Then I got smart....I found the AVG uninstaller on their website. Ran it, rebooted.....it's still there.

Guys this is random. I've never seen anything like this and I'm talking about 3 different machines, XP and 7 and some really strange uninstall issues I've never seen before.

Thoughts?

By the way, I think I've found some manual removal instructions for AVG that I'm going to try tomorrow along with the removal tool again, but does anyone know of anything like that for SAS since Revo is no help?

If all else fails you might try process explorer. Guess you've looked in the registry. Revo would have been my first choice too. There's a whole list of uninstallers here on Nibbles somewhere.

One of the best uninstall tools I've encountered is inside Ashampoo's WinOptimizer Vsn 7 & 8

their stuff comes from Germany, is reasonably priced shareware, and I've been using it for years.

the uninstaller (which can be purchased seperately also) has never failed to install anything for me.

the one exception: the dreaded Norton!!!!!

(BTW, I've stopped buying Norton products. Reason is whenever it came time to remove the NAV for a newer one, the symantec uninstaller takes out every symantec product. Rather dumb way to run a software company. I think the idea is to get you to renew your subscription on-line, which is more expensive than buying a new one on eBay.)

Thanks for the SAS uninstaller's I've searched and couldn't find them!

Anything you need a special tool to remove, is spam-ware.

I'm looking at you, Norton.

I've had trouble at some point uninstalling almost every AV on the market and as I stated above I had trouble with SAS. I don't think I'd consider SAS spamware. But yes I do admit that uninstalling Norton does seem to be a VERY common problem.
