I had a strange problem today. I had 6 machines in the office for virus removal and amongst the 6 I had two machines with AVG and the owners were requesting something new. After the machines were cleaned I could not get AVG to uninstall. It would appear to uninstall then throw out the same error on both machines, one was XP and the other 7. The error code was 0xc0070643. I found that weird and while researching the problem (haven't found a working solution yet) I started uninstalling SuperAntiSpyware from some of the machines since I was done cleaning. On two of the machines it would not uninstall. One of them was a (different) Win 7 machine and the other was the same XP machine with the AVG uninstall problem. SAS didn't throw out an error, it would just go all the way through the uninstall process, open the usual SAS webpage in IE and then sit there. It would never disappear from the Add/Remove program list.
I ran Revouninstaller on all the machines and it showed SAS to be uninstalled on both...it showed up no where. But SAS was still starting when the pc booted, the shortcuts were all there and.....it worked. I could still run the program. I ran Revouninstalled on one of the AVG installations and it said it uninstalled it...but you guessed it, still there after a reboot but it appeared to be crippled. After that, Revo couldn't see it as installed.
Then I got smart....I found the AVG uninstaller on their website. Ran it, rebooted.....it's still there.
Guys this is random. I've never seen anything like this and I'm talking about 3 different machines, XP and 7 and some really strange uninstall issues I've never seen before.
Thoughts?
