Well, I've never worked with a Zyxel business class router. But things like Ubiquity and Cisco are bricks until they have been configured. I seem to remember that the Cisco RV, Linksys LRT, and Netgear required configuration to get them online but do not remember if they had DHCP on the WAN.
And I agree with @nlinecomputers , given the situation I'd want to default it if you can't get in to look things over. It's less of a issue if you just locked yourself out since you should know what was done.
