Can print anything but jpegs???

Have you ever seen a Vista machine that won't print jpegs? I can print in any other applications (IE, word, printer properties test page) but when I try to print jpegs, nothing happens - no error, nothing in event viewer, nothing in the printer queue. I've tried printing straight out of Picasa, and the standard MS photo programs (pic & fax viewer, picture manager etc.). Tried reinstalling printer to no avail. It is printing via a wireless connection to an HP printer connected to another PC and shared. Jpegs print fine from the machine the printer is connected to.

Any ideas?

For my 100th post I was hoping to contribute rather than leach, but I'll still try. So here's s funny joke for all of us who have been there to bail out a DIY repair job. http://www.geekoftheday.com/geek-jokes/fix-it-yourself.html

I'll also say thanks to any ideas to solve this one for me.

Is it one particular jpg, or all jpgs? Can you print other image file types (gif, bmp, png etc.)?

Can you print to PDF, XPS or fax, if available?

Are the drivers recent? and signed?

Have you tried changing the default viewer?

Is it a dot matrix printer? :D

EDIT: When I reached 100 posts, nobody noticed. Not even me

When it comes to teh drivers problem, try start with your PC chipset driver, first then the VGA and the printer drivers again.

After installed the chipset driver, please reboot PC for the new driver to take effect, then install the VGA and printer driver again.

Hope this helps!

Thank you both.

It's onboard video. It's a current HP all in one printer. Can't remember the model #, but it was purchased within the last year and I have installed the most current drivers from the website. I haven't tried installing the chipset drivers again.I have installed the printer again though. I have printed emails, full webpages including embedded images. I haven't specifically tried a .png or a .bmp. It's an in-home call, so I did a few things but then felt I was spinning my wheels and didn't want to keep randomly trying things with the customer breathing over my shoulder.

I'll connect remotely again once I feel I have enough to try a troubleshoot. Thanks for keeping the ideas coming.

As for 100 posts - not such a big deal, but thought I'd throw a joke in there just because.....

If this recently started happening, you might try system restore.

I don't have a Vista machine, but Windows XP and Windows 7 use shimgvw.dll (Windows Picture and Fax Viewer Library) to print. You might look at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\jpegfile\shell\printto\command in the registry. I don't know what the default entry should be, but I'm sure someone here does know.

EDIT: Daifne had a similar problem, perhaps this thread will shed some light.

I don't think this is related to mine. It was just an issue with IE printing the HTML code instead of the page. It was printing...

Perhaps I misspoke, but I meant it may be related to the default action associated with printing.

EDIT:That's why I asked in my previous post if he tried changing the default viewer. As I recall, changing the default browser was part of your solution.
