Solution: no, too big for a laptop - meant for a desktop or maybe a console.

Samsung now has a 980 Pro with a heatsink. Am I able to purchase that heatsink by itself and install it onto mine? I have a gaming laptop, so I suspect it would be too bulky and wouldn't allow me to close the back lid.

I doubt samsung sells this as an individual part, but I haven't looked. Some heatsinks are thinner than other, for example this one looks much thinner than the one shown in your picture. We use those thick ones on desktops, but haven't tried aftermarket heatsinks on a laptop yet.

You didn't specify your laptop model but if you need a heatsink you need to see if an optional one is made by the manufacturer of your laptop. And even then you may not get something that will work. Some cards put out too much heat to work in some laptops. I tend to stay with the OEM provided SSDs because of the heat issues.

The 980 Pro works fine for me. No need for a heatsink. Just curious.
