I don't want to spend much more than $150, actually $100 or so if possible.

Main feature I want:
- Readily available, and affordable, toner

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Brother HL 5340D
-High Yield Toner is 120$ gets about 6,000 Prints

Brother HL 2270DW
-High Yield is Toner is $70 gets about 2,600 Prints

Both are newer machines, down fall is when you gotta replace the drum your looking at the about $120+ which isn't bad considering they last for about 25,000+ depending on machines. I have a older version of both machines and they are very nice and efficient machines for me.

*EDIT*
Both of these machines are on sale at Officemax at the moment so price will change after Saturday

Thanks for the tip! I checked out the Brother HL2270 and HL2240 (same thing, but without wireless) and they look really good. If I can find the HL5340 in stock here in Canada, I'll take a look at it too.

Here's a chart I made up of popular laser printers in my price range:

Brother HL2240D
Price: $70 @ Staples, $99 @ Future Shop, regularly $120
Toner Included? Starter Toner Cartridge (700 pages)
Toner Cost: TN-420 (Standard Capacity) 1,200 Pages @ $52
TN-450 (High Yield) 2,600 pages @ $80.00
Print Speed: 24ppm
Duty Cycle: DR420 Drum Unit (10,000 pages)
Automatic two sided printing? No
NOTE: Brother HL2240 and HL2270 use the SAME toner cartridges!
HL2270 is $150 @ Staples, but it has automatic duplex printing I think?

HP*LaserJet Pro P1102W Printer
Price: $79.95 @ Staples, regularly $150
Toner Included? Starter cartridge, not sure on yield though
Toner Cost: HP 85A Black, 1,600 pages @ $94.35
Print Speed: 19ppm
Duty Cycle: 5000 pages
Automatic two sided printing? No

HP*LaserJet Pro P1606DN Printer
Price: $140 @ Staples, regularly $200
Toner Included? Starter cartridge, not sure on yield
Toner Cost: HP 78A Black, 2,100 pages @ $107
Print Speed: 26ppm

Bear in mind those are Canadian prices at this time.

I have the HP Laserjet Pro P1102W printer and I'm really pleased with it. I've yet to use a cartridge and I do quite a bit of printing. I've bought a toner cartridge on Ebay for £20 supposedly 100% compatible but we'll see.

I'm planning to print flyers with this one though, 500 flyers a time, maybe 5-6 times throughout this summer.

3000 flyers :D

You might not get the yield they say if there is a lot of solids though. Years ago the yield would be at 6% ink coverage where typically a flyer maybe a lot more than that.

If you do lots of printing be sure to get a model that has replaceable parts, like HP laserjets. I have a client who has some of the Dell printers (rebranded) where the paper pickup roller is about 160 in parts to replace

That Hp 1606 is also a nice printer, I do sell a few of those at officemax. I agree on avoiding the Dells, not sure how it is else where but where I am at you can only buy dell ink from walmart and bestbuy. As for toner I have to order it for customers since no one carries it.

I would recommend on checking out your local print shops like staples, if you can get 500 bw fliers for about 4cents a copy it is way better then printing your own, after you figure in time/paper/toner. I also do know being in the office supply retail as long as I have been, theres is a new face in all stores price matching almost anyone, so if you find a super cheap site that will do color or bw for super cheap, Officemax, Kinkos, Officedepot, and Staples will most likely price match them or if not give you a nice deal.

Ok, so I bought a Brother HL-2240.

IT'S AMAZING. The prints are great quality, it's fast, and the toner is really affordable. Plus, the drivers/software included are the most non-intrusive I have used so far...they aren't constantly popping up and alerting you.

Thanks for all the tips and recommendations everyone!

Have a look at the oki b410. Awesome little printer and the toner is cheap. Well at least here in Canada and has a higher page yield.
