Bizarre domain/email issue.

So a different domain/exchange serving is getting emails from a different domain. I'll explain better; failed or rejected sent email from "domain.com" are being sent to "domainn.com" a domain that is one letter off. They are two unrelated companies. Nothing on domain.com's exchange server has changed. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm not sure I follow.....but lemme see if I understand what you mean.

An Exchange server is set to run the mail for ..say..."bitwise.com"

But NDR's that it gets back....are from mails intended to be sent to "bitwiseR.com"? But you can show that this server hasn't tried to send them?

Monitoring the outbound queues?
What version of Exch?

Does it send directly out to the internet, and receive from anyplace on the internet? Or is it a locked down server that uses a mail bastion/SMTP smart host? So it only receives from the hosts IP range and sends outbound to the hosts out going?

Thanks for trying to understand me :)

Basically the NDR's for one domain, are being received by a different domain entirely.

So jdoe@domain.com is supposedly having an email fail to send and someone@domain2.com is getting the NDR. Does that make more sense?

This is on SBS 2003. The employee's of domain.com haven't had any sending issues but someone else on a different domain is getting an NDR for them. I have not seen the NDR's received by domain2.com yet.

Are you in contact with someone from domain2? Can they open the e-mail headers of one of those NDRs and forward that to you?

Any common ground between both domains...like same host for the DNS?

I'm waiting to hear back from them. Different DNS, different registrar, different everything as far as I can tell. Company 1 is in California and company 2 is in Florida. Apparently this started a couple days ago.

check mxtoolbox.com on both. I bet you both either have the same webhost or the same Domain Registar and someone f'd the mx records up. Or the reverse DNS records.

What was it? Crap I'm trying to learn from old threads! Makes me want to fing all my old threads and make sure they were resolved!
