Hi guys
I have a customers laptop in at the moment it is a HP Pavilion dv6000 with xp media center edition 2005. While the customer was doing an update (from hp) the laptop ran out of power and turned its self off. The laptop will now not show anything on the screen even the post or bios. I think the bios is corrupt and was wondering if anyone has tips on how to repair the bios before i cantact HP?
Thanks
JayTech

Hi Blues
Thanks for your reply. I have taken out the main battery and the cmos battery but this has made no diff. If the bios is corrupt by the laptop cutting out half way through an update would doing this normally help?
Thanks again!

Taking the battery out would reset BIOS causing an incorrect setting to reset itself. I know a lot of BIOS upgrades now a days are done within windows, but is there a BIOS update that you could do which you could do from a bootable disk? It might get rid of your corrupt version and replace it with the newest available.

I through that suggestion out earlier on a thin hope of it working. I would then try as thecoldone06 has suggested a bottable BIOS update which if it can boot would update and hopefully fix the BIOS. The next thing I would do is see if the CMOS is removable/replacable chip and see about getting a new one ordered. It looks like 14049752 has a link to try first though.

I can show you how to fix it!
let me know if you didn't send it?
send me the file he was using to update!

Very easy to fix, just let me know and feel free to pm me.

P.s: just so that we are clear , when you boot the lappy , nothing show up, it doesn't show the screen, doesn't look for bootable drives. basically a fantasy paper weight ...right?

Why not share the info for everyone to see?

Hi guys
It was an automatic update from HP. I do not know exactly what update it was but yeah you are right it is now just a fancy papper weight! HP are picking it up today. As 14049752 says you should share how you would fix the issue for others. Thanks
