Best Way to Host ScreenConnect?

My business is mobile and I'm looking to pick up some additional remote work. I was looking at ScreenConnect because of the flat fee and that I can host it myself. I was wondering how others that use ScreenConnect host the server. I don't have a dedicated machine or dedicated IP address. I was looking at moving my existing web hosting over to one of their virtual private servers for $30/month. I could look at getting a dedicated IP address through my ISP and just using my laptop as the server and the host.

What do others do?

I had no problem hosting my trial of ScreenConnect on a local server I have running. I used DynDns to map my dynamic IP to a hostname and made a CNAME from my business domain to the DynDNS alias.

If you are going to have a VPS anyways might as well use that.

Ex: CNAME - screenconnect.customdns.com | remotesupport.compute-able.com
(Not actually currently configured)

From my demo I would highly recommend purchasing ScreenConnect it met all of my expectations and is a great value.

We use Screen Connect on a dedicated 2008 R2 Server thats on a dynamic IP, the IP never changes even though it's dynamic. Check it out at www.pc-rocket.com (remote support) This was super easy to set up and configure. We love Screen Connect and the support not to mention the forums are great. The script uses VERY little resources and runs beautifully on our network. We have every one of our customers servers and most desktops connected. The only thing I wish I would have done was to buy a extra licence / seat to open two connections at once. I highly recommend that so you can have more than one session open at a time.

Screen Connect, I know you read these forums, the only other suggestion... You guys need a real iPhone app. Other than that love ya.

I wanted to make sure you were able to use the app we have. You can use your iphone/ipad to control computers, correct?

Our app performs most of the functions of our windows, mac, and linux clients. And just like those, you launch from our web UI.

After 2 years of GoToAssist Express at $660/yr, I recently stumbled upon ScreenConnect last month and cancelled my GTA-E subscription and bought ScreenConnect. It's SO very easy!

I have a large VMware ESXi server at my home office with a business class Comcast cable internet connection with 13 fixed IP's. I installed SC onto an existing Windows Server 2008 vm that hosts my FTP service and there's been no impact in performance.

The $8/mn hosting option sounds like a good option if you don't have a full time internet at your home.

Why is everyone talking about servers and hosting? I've got SC running on my 1.6 Ghz desktop behind a port-forwarded router. Unless you're talking about having dozens of techs accessing it constantly, there's really no demand placed on it.

Well, I'm in the market for web hosting and a remote support solution. So I have the rs narrowed down to SC or Techinline. I used the forums search feature :D and found this thread, and thought I would ask RichmondTech a question.

Ask away, by all means. I was speaking generally. For little guys like myself, running SC on my desktop (from where I do most of my remotes anyway) produces no strain on my system at all... and it's a wimp. It's on 24/7 so, even if I were to do an emergency remote while visiting my in-laws, I would only need to plug my flash drive into their system to access my tools.

The more I looked into this yesterday. The more I realized you were right.

I ended up not going with thrustvps.com as they didn't have any availability in that price range. My office now has Internet connection so we're going to use a desktop with port forwarding on the router and dynDNS to forward from my website to the desktop.

We used thrustvps to host screenconnect for about 6 months and it worked very well for $8/month. Of course a windows VPS at $8/month you have to expect some downtime which we did have.

I think I am going to try out the thrustvps.com month-to-month. At only $8/month it's worth a shot. I've never messed with DynDNS.

I have found the "free" dyndns does have a shelf life if you dont use it often (I dont remeber what often is) but if I set up a dyndns for some to RDP into their pc if they dont use it for a while that dyndns account goes bad.. So the paid version might not be a bad idea..

I also lost one that I used for RDP into my home computer. I put a scheduled task in windows to do this every day:

"nslookup.exe mydomain.dyndns.org"

That will "renew" the account. Yeah, it's a hack.
