Right now I use recovermyfiles, this program is pretty good, but I have a deep problem with a client and am looking for another option here.

Client's computer crashed and we could not get it back going, so he opted to do a factory reset. Then it turns out, this main files were kept in the root of C and not in user profiles, so his online back up didn't get them.

Now we find the c/root files, but all are corrupted. Any other programs to check out? Thanks for your help on this in advance!

Get Data Back here. I've also used an old version of Easeus Data Recovery Wizard and liked it, too. From what I've read, R-Studio is popular with professional data recovery people. My main complaint with GDB is that you have to select a branch of data (e.g., Documents), click Copy and save it to your designated target location. Only when that's finished can you then repeat the process with the next desired branch, e.g., Desktop. You could just copy the entire user profile but that save slots of stuff you don't necessarily want (AppData, etc), taking more time and space. Easeus lets you just pre-check all the folders you want to save.

EasUS and R-Studio make good products for this type of recovery. I've had some limited success with Piriforms Recuva as well.

Most likely the restore already over wrote the same space the files that were not backed up were located on the disk. Testdisk will show this most of the time. Its game over in most cases since the files have been overwritten by the new install.

Obviously, if at all possible, take an image of the drive and work on that. (but you knew that already).

+1 for rstudio, with it's built imaging facility.

If it is very important data, and they're willing to spend some money to get it back, we use Gillware. Just got a quote from them today on a client's drive we sent in last week. He needs important data from his vibration testing software. Quote was $600 and he won't pay unless they get the data he needs. Have had clients pay upwards up $800 before. We get a good commission as well.

In the future, always get a full clone of the original drive before you wipe and reload.

As for a good all around software, I recommend R-Studio, but never run it or any other data recovery program against the original drive.

R-Studio for me (just the other day I recovered the data from an SD card for a customer of mine; I pulled 400 pictures from it).
Kroll Ontrack (on the above job, the recovery failed to pull 400 pictures, and only pulled about 20). Great software, I am still going to use it in my arsenal.

EaseUS more and more...it's our "go-to" one now.

EaseUS is great i am running data recovery with it right now it has been running 85 hours but it will get most of what the person wanted. I use it a lot. very powerful. Also runtime makes a got program too; someone else has mentioned it. HDD Regenerator has been good to me in the past.

I really like doing data recovery. always looking for different possibilities. I am also a drive savers partner. They are really good to there partners.

Please tell me that you are running the data recovery program for 85 hours against the clone, right?

Ever ask DriveSavers what they think of HDD Regenerator?

As for EaseUS, I never liked it. Still think that R-Studio is the best all around data recovery program out there...especially for DIY recoveries.

I recovered over 110 GBs; everything they needed. left a ton they didnt.

i have also had a lot of success with copying the raw format to a good hard drive and then converting it from there.

I have used GetDataBack by runtime for drives that have been over-written with a factory recovery. It can take a long time for large drives but is effective.

Just out of curiosity, what software do you recommend for making a forensic image of a drive before data recovery?

Any cloning utility that has an option for block or sector (1:1) copying rather than file data copying.

For example:

Key features about EaseUS Disk Copy

Built-in burning features make automatic bootable CD/DVD creation to copy entire disk easily.
Partition copy & Disk copy: Copy one partition/disk to another sector by sector with a bootable CD.
Sector by sector copy to make physical 1:1 copies (clones) of hard disks & partitions with 100% identity to the original
