I used to be a sound engineer with a 2nd rate rock band back in the late 70s (or was that early 80s, it was all a bit fuzzy back then...?). We opened for some of the big names so I got to party with the crews of Yes, Stones, Rufus, etc. but never the band themselves. To this day I struggle to listen to music. All I hear is the mix. Are the vocals mixed right. How is the EQ. Are the drums mic'd correctly. To that end I rarely listen anymore which is disappointing to me. I do play and record my own stuff occasionally but that's mostly entertaining from the technical side of things.

I used to be the sound guy for a church. The praise band wanted everything loud like a rock show, while the old bitties wanted it quiet. Very hard to control.

Ooo - ouch! Tough gig. I used to play electric guitar with the kids in my church. It was a bit inspiring for some as an old guy with with a Les Paul and a Marshall doing Christian rock. But, as you stated, the "old bitties" disapproved so much there had to be a separate service for the youth band. Even our old antiquated pastor was heard to ask "why we need guitars in church"? Tough crowd.....

I guess I'm an outlier. My favorite is electronic...chillstep specifically. In college I was a huge fan of melodic trance, and I guess I owe this affinity to the synthesizer music of the 80s I grew up with.

Speaking of Yes, Jon Anderson lives in the next town over. I see him at the store sometimes, ha ha.
