AVG CloudCare - finding account holder?

I went to a brand new client today, they had 3 computers in the head office and then another 15 across 6 stores. In the head office the accounts PC has an expired Norton, the marketing PC an expired McAfee and the other PC had AVG CloudCare. I said that with multiple computers in different locations a Cloud based AV is the way to go so if they already have AVG Cloud account then i can install that on the two expired computers. Problem is the office staff are all fairly new and nobody knows who installed it.

The admin girl called AVG, she gave them the company name, address and main email address's but AVG couldn't find any account linked to them. Now what i find really stupid is that AVG said the local installation has no way of identifying the account holder, license number or email its linked to.

I'm new to AVG Cloud Care but does anyone know how i can identify what account the local install is linked to. Just being able to get an email address would be a start?

Sell them a good antivirus.....wouldn't spend another minute on that horrible AVG.

I'll second that. Move them to something new and tell them to let you know if they receive any bills for AVG services....

Ex cloudcare user here. Bad customer service is one of the reasons I don't deal with them anymore. That and it is a shitty product.

I resell Sophos Cloud which would be my first choice or Bitdefender (via GFI) if I can convince them to go contract. BUT if the other 15 computers in the other stores are all running this AVG Cloud (I couldn't check) then it makes sense to at least use up the rest of the licence or cancel it if it's a monthly payment.

I'd look at it this way....with an at least partially decent AV product that point almost makes sense.
But with a total piece of junk...no matter what they paid....I'd want decent protection on it...and I'd want a product that I resell, manage, and an intimately familiar with. Clients that we onboard....we always ditch any/all "other" services that the prior nerds had on there, and replace with our services.

Leaving AVG on for a few more months might save them what...60 or 80 or a hundred bucks? Say that useless AV allows several malware infections...and you have to clean them up...whose dime is that on? If this is an all you can eat MSP client...you're volunteering that time...you're eating that time. Would you want to support a Windows XP computer that was on the internet all the time? For no extra fee?
For an MSP client, I'd want them on maximum protection...if it's my time that gets used cleaning it up...I want to minimize my exposure to added work.

If they have a contract where they pay you for malware removal...and they call you for a few malware infections over the remainder of the license due to poor protection of AVG..where is their savings?

agreed. The number of machines I see heavily infested with malware running AVG is astonishing. They may as well have no anti-virus at all.

Thanks all, it's been a while since I dealt with AVG and I didn't realise it had got so bad. I will just tell them to scrap it and quote an alternativr

And if they are cheap or concerned about cost, Avast is pushing a free for business AV. If you go with ESET etc, they should be good. Not enough experience on their products. But get them off AVG.

Still the same AV engine/defs/technology.
Have taken over clients that have (had) AVG...putting Eset or BD on...amazing to see them light up cleaning up what that blind sieve AVG let through. In the past decade (or however long its been since AVG became common in the US...~Win98 or Win2K days)I have just seen too high...seriously high numbers...of infections on AVG rigs to believe otherwise.

I know AVG has been on a climb from near the bottom over the past year...as far as detection, but it's still down in the bottom 50% over at AV-Comparatives. (granted..it's towards the top of that bottom 50%..yay!). But over the past...quite a few years...it has lived in that bottom area. And Eset has been on a slide in the past year....at AV-C...but I've seen them long enough to know they usually quickly climb back up towards the top.

Just about all major AV players have a cloud controlled version...so that stays equal and is not a determining factor. They pretty much all have that.
