Anyone see this?

http://filehippo.com/download_avg_antispyware/

I know I don't care for AVG's full on av product, but is this one decent? Maybe trying to tap into mbam's market. Didn't see it on AVG's main site, and the updates failed to download, maybe something to test and keep an eye on though. Some googling says maybe this program is old. Never saw it till today, happened to pop up while I was downloading something else.

That is what Ewido Anti-Spyware was before AVG bought it and screwed it up. Ewido Anti-Spyware used to be good back a long time ago.

Ah. I had never seen this product, didn't see it on avg's site, so was just wondering. Thanks for the info.

That product is really old. Shows it hasn't been updated since 2007. Sounds about right. Ewido was such an awesome product back in it's time!! Anyone also remember CounterSpy and Giant AntiSpyware? I wish we still had products like these to remove and block spyware! It seems that some of this spyware and adware is an ongoing battle and requires various tools to manually remove it all. I had to dust off SysInspector the other day for two customers with nasty spyware infections (not a virus or Trojan) because ADW wasn't catching anything. Nor was HMP, MBAM, or JRT.

I will tell you though that AVG Free does incorporate a fairly nice antispyware engine. It's just not on by default. Settings>Advanced Settings>Antivirus>Report enhanced set of potentially unwanted programs.

I just really dislike all the advertising in AVG Free. Seems like they are always offering something, from a search bar to changing your homepage. Some of NY clients that I have installed avg for get ****** when they accidentally click accept on one of the AVG prompts and it changes their search and homepage to the AVG secure search.

I used to use AVG, but like you don't like their ads. I tend to go the Avast route now, they also have the option to scan for PUPS these days. The other nice thing, they put in a tool for browser cleanup which does not seem terrible.

Kept seeing you back up Avast so much I went back to it and have been using it a lot more! lol

I can't say you catch everything, but on avast I usually install that for an option and like to run the bootable scan, and find that usually finds things the other tools left, so pretty good testament of how good their product is imo. Glad you like it lol. If you look it even has remote capability built in nowdays.
