Got a Sony Vaio PCG-7113l that guy uses for DJ'ing. As such, he has worn out the 3.5mm headphone jack and wants it replaced!

The problem is I cant find a new one... Anybody know where to look here in the states?

I have tried Newark.com and Mouser.com trying to find a generic, no dice...

if its the female 3.5mm jack on the laptop, I'll open the case and see if its loose and only needs to be tightened up. good luck

Can you expand upon this please? cause it is loose (not the solder, the jack finger), and the only way i can see to "tighten" it would be to increase the amount of bend in the middle of the finger, which is nearly impossible from my angle...

Have you opened the laptop up? Sometimes these things are on a separate daughter or expansion board that is connected by a ribbon cable. That is your best bet to replace such a board. I personally wouldn't replace the jack itself in the main board. If the computer has one, I would suggest an ExpressCard Soundblaster as a replacement.

Yeah I had it open, it is soldered to the motherboard. Really easy replacement actually, if i could find one...
But since i cant, thanks for the info! I wasn't havin any luck finding an audio expresscard either! Found USB all over the place, but Im always worried about breakign USB devices when you have to plug something else into them, so that's just the ticket!

Thanks! :D

Ive done alot of work with aspiring DJs lately, and they all seem to have this problem. I tend to steer them towards Macbook Pros and a 3 year warranty, as it seems this problem is pretty common. It has come to the point where I loathe these guys because they always seem to come in on a Friday afternoon, needing their computer in a few hours and having all week to come in. They get pushy and fairly rude because their ass is on the line, so these tend to be the guys I cut off and refuse to help in the future.

That being said I generally recommend the ExpressCard units because it is far cheaper and less of a headache to replace if they wear them out. I found one here: http://www.amazon.com/Creative-ExpressCard-Blaster-Xtreme-Notebook-70SB071000000/dp/B000QRV3NU

That is a pretty high end one, though I know I have purchased some for around $50 for a less feature rich unit. I dont like the USB ones because the audio quality is very poor, and I am not an audiophile. However, I have used this product: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102036 in a pinch and seems better than most others out there.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the extended info!
As i was typing my last post, I found this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-SB09...3A3E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336484401&sr=8-1

gotta be a small, single slot type for this machine, so this fits that bill! As for sound quality, I'm not an audiophile either, and I'm guessing this guy isn't overly worried about it else he wouldn't be using onboard (or even a laptop IMHO).
The good news is, he has a few days before his next gig, so I'm not on a super, super tight schedule. But I do like to turn around machines as fast as I can!

^ That adapter might be cheap, but from where I stand, that is exactly the problem. I personally have been burned too many times buying this off-brand junk only to have cheap Chinese plastic crap that doesnt even work. Besides, I try to be a professional and stick with well known hardware whenever possible.

Yea I agree, I didnt necessarily mean that one, it was just the first pic I found, however I like to offer a few solutions and provide the one that fits the bill the best.

Its a bit of a cheaper solution, but why not suggest he use a USB adapter like THIS one. easily replace when it dies again.

Thanks for the input, but as I said in an earlier post, i do not like USB devices that you have to plug stuff into as they almost always get broke and take the USB port with them. Therefore, I am happy to find the solution in PCMCIA Express!! And at $25, slip out, slip in.. USB is no easier to replace or cheaper...
