Can someone help me please, I have installed a replacement screen in an Acer Aspire 5532 laptop and i now get no screen on boot up. The laptop "turns over" with the hard drive and Fan but i get no image on the screen. I reinstalled the original screen to see if it lit up and nothing. I have also tried to run an external monitor and still nothing. Before replacing the old screen lit up but there was no image as it was broken, now it just stays black. Could this be a faulty lcd cable? I have looked at the cable and it does look as though it may be damaged but i am unsure as i don't have enough experience with laptops. Am i correct in stating that if it was faulty, i would still get an image on an external monitor? Listening to it as it starts I can hear the harde drive spinning and the fan kicking in, then it quiets down. After a while the hard drive starts again ( i'm presuming this is after the 30 secs wait while it is telling me windows shut down incorrectly etc what do i want to do).
I have googled and found various info about cpu, motherboard possibly bad etc. I have reseated the ram and single seated it too. Nothing seems to be working. Am i missing something? Thing is i don't want to start ordering the wrong stuff as i'm doing this as a favour. I have decided it isn't the inverter as i would see "something" on the screen. Now i'm stumped on which direction to take to get a definative answer on what is wrong.

With it being a laptop i don't have spare parts kicking around to swap out like i would have with a desktop, could someone give me an idea of how best to proceed please.

It had backlight and now it doesn't and no external video? What happens if you disconnect the LVDS cable, and inverter and connect to an external monitor?

Hi and ty for replying, i disconnected both the inverter and the cable after reading your reply and still nothing showing on an external monitor. It still sounds like it is booting though as before.

Are you using Fn + F5 to toggle to the monitor? Or Fn + F6 to turn off/on the backlight?

Hi Martyn, I tried switching with fn + f5 and fn + f6 for both of your suggestions and nothing is happening. I tried them initially when it didn't come on as part of the diag. I also tried it after removing the inverter and LVDS cable too. Still no dice though.

Just an update to let you know that my little issue is solved. Bit of a rookie mistake but the bottom ram wasn't seating properly, looked fine to my eyes (think i'm gonna have to buy some big glasses) and it was this that was causing the problem. When i checked the ram out i should have checked both sides instead of using the same side. After i got out my bed with a fresh set of non tired eyes i realised what was happening and now it's problem solved. Thanks for your time and efforts on my behalf.
