Anyone ever work on an Insignia Flex - 8 Tablet?

I have one in here that will not hold a charge, and the charge port has been pushed back into the case of the tablet. There is a very, very thin crack that appears to be the opening area on the front face of the case, near the edge. I can get it to open/spread a bit with my fingernail, but I can't even begin to get even my thinnest guitar picks in that crack to get the case open.

I've opened up a bunch of phones/tabs/game boys, etc. over the last couple of years, but so far haven't encountered anything this tight.

The actual model is Insignia ns-p16at08. ifixit has a guide for a similar tab, but in their instructions the case opens more along the side - it looks like it has a wider crack to work with.

Any ideas?

Not to be a butt.. but why bother?

$79.99 Brand new at BB - Linky

$35 all over used.

$40 for a refurbished.

I know, I thought the same thing. Hate to break it to the client, as this tab is less than a year old.

They are older folks and I know they won't see the logic in throwing something this new in the garbage.

They will when you tell them how much you will charge to fix it. Also consider if you cant or mess it up more you will be on the hook for that replacement.

If it is less than a year old do a warranty claim on it with the manufacturer. We have done that for several older clients - they don't want to mess with it or more likely don't know how. Usually most of them have a 1 year warranty. We usually charge $25-35 for doing it but we are also guaranteed a customer for life and a lot of referrals.

They are opting for a refurb unit at this point. Can't do a warranty claim on this, as it is damage from the client, tried to insert the charge cable the wrong way & forced the jack back into the case. For a cheapo tablet, this thing actually performs pretty well, I can see why they want another one.

I think the appeal is the fact that they are so cheap and can do so much. If a person doesn't beat them around, they can last awhile. Honestly, I think I could be just as happy with this cheap Insignia as I am with my Galaxy Tab 3 that I paid twice the money for.

BTW, I was able to work a razor blade into the crack in the side of the case & get it opened. The charge port is trashed, as I figured it was. They said I could have the tablet for parts or whatever, so I figured I may as well work at opening it up for the experience.
