Anybody use Tron?

I saw it on Reddit a few months ago and ran it on a clean test machine, granted I know it's designed for infected machines and it's not for me. It's designed to be 90-95% automated and to be run overnight with no input. Don't get me wrong I am all for automation, but I like to be a little more hands on and in front of the machine as much as possible to verify what is going on and what is being removed.

I just noticed it today and was wondering if anyone has used it here on the forums as well. I'm going to try it on a windows 7 test pc here, but was suprised at the length of time it says it has to run. 3-10 hours. I like the automation part of it, but since it does so much I was worried about it possibly breaking something.

As JoeTech said, automated systems via scripting would like to know what it is actually doing. As far as I can see it is running usual methods. So why does it take so long to run through the entire script?
Ten hours is a long time [max]- when most could be done in two. I think it's a bit overboard, no thanks

Personally I wont be using this, I'm more worried about the malware removal then clean up and optimization. Soon we will be put out of business by automated tools, LOL not:rolleyes:

There is a readme file in the main folder. There's switches you can run to skip steps. Much of the time seems to be taken on the defragmentation and on running several uninstall scripts designed to remove common OEM installed bloatware. You can also set these flags in the batch file. All the variables are at the top of the file. I'd simply create different copies for the different tasks.

Maybe it's worth a look when I have some time, I'll load up an old box with some malware etc. and give it a go. I don't like change, new things er badd.

I may not use from in that case. My process is basically rogue killer, jet and adwcleaner along with a bootable av scan at the end. Doesn't really take long to run. If that does not do it, then I can use other tools but for 90% that does the job easily and quickly.

I found, upon first test, that it worked quite well. It took about 4 hours, but had no Windows Updates to do (Win 7 machine). Had to run AdwCleaner to get rid of some other garbage, but after that, that PC (a newer Gateway desktop) ran like a champion. I think if I were going to use it regulary, I'd have it skip the scandisk/defrag portion and do everything else. My guess is that it would reduce the time spent to about 2-3 hours total, depending on the machine.

Man, I always worry about these "all-in-one-auto" tools. I like to have more control and know what's going on and being removed. Before using this, or any other, I would be sure to do a full image, cause I can see some "mistakes" being made at some point.

Just my opinion!

I agree with above. I like to know what is happening, and like I said, sounds like the tron tool may honestly take more time than doing things the way I currently do.

I can agree with this. The amount of time it takes throws me off. Seems most people just run it at night and come back to it. I rather be around the area and check back here and there.

My first 3 scans take maybe 30 minutes and I'm doing other stuff while those run. When I do the bootable scan it takes a couple of hours to do anyway and does not require my intervention until it's done.

I think it worked great on my totally infected vm machine.
