Antivirus for Windows 8

Well it would seem that Microsoft Security Essentials has sneaked onto my Windows 8 install and it's calling itself Windows Defender.

Err... so do I need to get rid of it in Add Remove Windows Components or switch it off when using Antivirus plus Malwarebytes Pro? I'm interested in finding out if you have any info.

No, as mentioned I said antivirus plus malwarebytes pro.
We normally use Avast or MSSE with Malwarebytes Pro for the cheap clients and Eset/Kaspersky with Malwarebytes Pro for the rest.
I've not tried yet - can you install MSSE on Windows 8? Would it be any different to the new version of Windows Defender?

W8's been available for testing and experimentation for a long time. It never even occurred to me to wonder if major A/V vendors would have compatibility issues. There's no excuse for them to have any problems.

So now that MSE rebranded as Defender is included in the OS, I assume there shouldn't be any licensing worries with Windows 8 in small businesses?

Like, hypothetically.. with Windows 7, in a small business of 15 computers, you could not use MSE because it is over the limit for the number of computers you can run it on while playing nice by the licensing rules(which is 10 PC's I believe).

So if a small business had 15 Windows 8 computers, that's that? Set it and forget it?

I'm sure they all have that intention, but given some of the disastrous updates some companies have had previously (*cough*avast*cough*), it's not too much of a stretch to think that Windows 8 compatibility issues might slip through.

I installed Kaspersky Internet security on win 8 last week, and this morning the OS said the license was "missing".

I had to run the Kaspersky removal utility and reload it.

It remembered the license serial so I didn't have to re-enter it.
