Anti Virus

It's product X for reasons Y :D

There are so many opinions and so many threads discussing them it's not really worth starting it again. The closest you can get to an unbiased answer is to look at the testing labs like AV Comparitives and even then you can pick holes in their testing methods vs the real world.

i'll play along.

Kaspersky Internet Security or ESET.

why don't you just suggest Norton 360....

I would suggest Kaspersky Anti Virus, ESET Anti Virus, or Norton 2010 Anti Virus.

Most of the time, the client has no use for the Internet Security Suites

Because Kaspersky Internet Security offers a lot more protection and features (like banner blocking) than just the AV. Plus the firewall barely bothers people unlike other solutions.

And, unlike Norton 360, doesn't slow down the computer or crash it.

For paid software I've been recommending Kaspersky, Norton AV/Internet Security is a worthy option also, for free anti-virus the 2011 version of AVG is an excellent choice, I've moved away from recommending MSE as there are too many bad reports surfacing against its effectiveness. All-in-one suites such as Norton 360 and Kaspersky Pure put too much in one package which can cause performance issues and unexpected problems for end-users.

Some of the suites have enough extra protection to make then worthwhile

http://www.kaspersky.com/compare - in particular the App Control/Sandboxing and Internet Security features make this significantly stronger at protecting against zero-day and drive-by fake AV infections.
