Just received another one for a different client, DL380P G8
Dual 8x core Xeons, 64 gigs of RAM, dual power supply...no HDD's in this one. It will be joining an existing pair of 1U servers which all share an HP MSA fiber NAS for drives. Ultimately replacing the oldest slowest 1U server (a DL360 G6 I think).

8 gig Fiber controller to connect to the SAN.
Intel Quad gigabit controller

Am doing an SD card for the VMWare boot.

That's a lot of power to squeeze into 1U case.

The majority of the servers I work on are a standard tower format. If they need to live in a rack, they usually just get a shelf.

I love the neatness of proper rack-mount servers, but I think they're probably way out of budget for most of my customers. What sort of money are we talking for something of that ilk?

This one here hovered $7,000.00. Another 800 for the fiber NIC that it will use to connect to the fiber SAN.

The fiber san, an MSA2040, that will be coming in, I'll post pics in this thread...that was about $20,000.00 after adding the drives in there. Will be doing a pair of massive RAID 10's in that. And discarding the existing one, an MSA 1000.

Nice! What backup software will you use? Is the redundant server for backup in case of hardware failure? I still haven't taken full advantage of VM's yet. Single point of failure always gets me... :o

About what I expected; probably roughly around £5K and £15K respectively in British dosh.

I don't think I'll be installing a server like that any time soon unfortunately. Most of my customers don't like to pay much more than around £2K for a new server. They wouldn't pay £5K for one, let alone £15K for a SAN!

Looking forward to seeing those SAN pics though :)

This particular client has a Datto Siris 3000.
The two servers just spread the load.

They are building another building across their lot....I plan on actually doing cluster/failover with that...have a matching server cabinet over in that building.
