Amazon Prime

I don't have a problem ethically with how I use my Prime account. Amazon allows my business to have a Prime account, and allows me to share it with any employees I might have, per their TOS.
I do not resell, rent, or ship products I buy to my customers.
I include parts I buy in repairs I perform on computers owned by my customers, which in my opinion, doesn't appear to be a problem

Update: As long as you are willing to take 'Rowena's' word for it, it looks like we're good. Here is the transcript of a chat I had this morning:

======================
You are now connected to Rowena from Amazon.com
Me:Wondering if my business can sign up for prime.
Rowena:Hello Mark, my name is Rowena.
I'll be more than happy to assist you and check if your business can apply for Prime.
Me:Thanks! I'm reading your TOS, and I see the following section:
Prime members are not permitted to purchase products for the purpose of resale, rental, or to ship to their customers or potential customers using Prime benefits.
Rowena:I see. Thanks for the information Mark.
Me:So, I'm wondering if this language is meant solely to prevent ebay sellers or something like that that drop ship products.
Rowena:Let me check it for you.
Me:In other words, can I buy a widget that I just keep in stock and resell to my customers during a home visit or if they come in.
Rowena:Thanks for holding.
I have checked this for you and ask my lead as well and a business account can also sign up for Amazon Prime and use the benefit of it.
It's like, the Prime will be use like a regular Prime.
Me:Thanks for checking! So the TOS language is meant to only to keep out the folks that have drop-ship businesses?
Rowena:To become a member of Amazon Prime, go to our Sign-up page:
http://www.amazon.com/prime
Yes that is right Mark. I am sorry for the confusion about this :)
Me:Since this seems to be the opposite of what the Terms of Service say, could I get this in writing somehow? I guess I'm looking for something more official than a chat transcript...
Rowena:Oh I see. However, we do not have an option to provide a paper of certificate regarding this but, no worries, our chat was recorded so if you encounter any problem regarding this, Just please do not hesitate to contact us back.
We will be glad to check your previous contact and see what we can do to help.
Me:Ok. Thanks for your help!
Rowena:You're most welcome Mark.
It's been my pleasure to help a valued customer like you.
I hope I was able to give you help and assistance regarding with your concern.
======================

So...maybe they just got a new member. I still think their TOS appears to contradict this, but everyone that mentioned the profit incentive angle is probably right. I wish Rowena's English was better - actual answer part of the chat is a bit garbled...

HA! I just noticed that this is my 353rd post - a prime number. That's perfect!

I always figured that if someone actually looked into my account, it'd be pretty apparent what I was doing with it. How many home users buy 200 of the same exact item in a year?

Why would Amazon have a problem with Resellers. SO long as you are not claiming to be amazon or using their packaging, which would have their trademarks, WHY would Amazon care? Not doing so is turning down business and I can't see them doing that.

What do you guys think of prime?
Saves me a fortune in postage charges and almost everything I order arrives the next day, with such regularity that I can be confident enough to organise my jobs around the expected delivery dates. Personally I think it's great.

I have no need for any of the other benefits that come with Prime though, like movie streaming, and I'd prefer it if those were optional, especially if it would allow Amazon to offer Prime at a lower price for those who only need it for the fast, free shipping benefits.

I got an email today stating prime membership was going to $99/year. I don't renew until December.

Somebody may have mentioned this already [.... I'm kinda new here so I'm not familiar with many of the discussion threads and I haven't done a thorough search or the forums, though after a brief search I didn't see any mention of it ...]: Do you guys know of the Amazon gift loophole/workaround to get Prime at the old price?

Here's how: http://lifehacker.com/get-another-year-of-amazon-prime-for-79-even-as-a-cur-1543360940

I'm in the UK; here it's going up from £49 to £79 per year but there appears to be no option on Amazon.co.uk to purchase Prime as a gift. However, I was able to log into Amazon.com and purchase it as a gift for myself (didn't even have to register, it even had my CC details stored) to be delivered just before my UK Prime membership runs out in October. There's no guarantee it'll work of course (therefore do this at your own risk) .... but I've either saved 30 quid or wasted 50!

Wonder how many prime members are techs like us. If they shut us down that would probably kill the program. Who else buys enough to offset the membership? I'm not using it to watch movies.

It's funny, I'm the complete opposite. Either I'm streaming something during lunch at the office, or the family is streaming via a roku at home. I don't think a day has gone by that we have not streamed something!

I do like not having to worry about shipping costs or waiting 7 days to get parts via "free" shipping though! Not have to keep parts in stock has really helped keep costs down. Even if I need something quick the next day upgrade price is what, like 3 bucks? Next to a paying job, that's chump change.

Motz,

How's your shipping service from Newegg? Do you often get stuff next day when it ships from NJ? I love ordering from them before 4pm as I usually get it w/n 24 hours if the order gets processed that day, even with the 4-7 day "egg saver" as their warehouse must be pretty darn close to the distribution hub.

I can't say enough about how great NE shipping is 90% of the time. I've never had a package not be trackable that I can remember (except maybe an order of a couple patch cables or something). I find it strange that sometimes I order an item on Monday and then the same item again on Wed or Thurs and they both show up on Friday... This happens when they ship from Cali on Mon and then NJ on Wed/Thursday. It would be nice to know where the product was shipping from before having the choose the method of shipping.

My only issue with NE is disappearing promo codes when placing an order. I'll fill my cart, apply promo codes, verify the cart/total amount, enter payment details, verify shipping address and then when I go to confirm the order the promo codes have been removed:mad:! It doesn't happen every time, but enough to be an issue.

I constantly use prime for my parts purchases, it has paid for itself this year multiple times over, even with the new pricing coming up I don't mind as the benefits far outweigh the cost.

Well, I have an amazon prime account. I signed up when the price was 79.00 a year. I really dont watch the streaming video and just use it for parts. However, I might discontinue it because Im not getting alot of benefit from it.

I order alot of my parts from newegg. Today I was pricing out a computer build for a customer and compared prices of parts to amazon and found that amazon was indeed alot more expensive for the parts I wanted. After ordering my parts I figured I would check out the other benefits of prime and went to watch a tv show. Well, Of course it didnt like my linux and complained about my flash version. So, I didnt get to watch a show. Im sure I could probably loadup windows in my VM but didnt want to bother. Not worth it.

Im still on the fence about keeping the account. I will have to wait and see. Also check out any other "benefits" that come with the prime account.

In reality I do most of my buying right now from newegg, tiger direct, and Ebay. :)

Oh well. Everyones needs are different.

I love prime

I rent college books for my daughter, I play the videos in the refurbished computers for sale. I ordered 130 laptop screens using prime in 2013 :D.
That is just what comes to mind, every week I order all kinds of random computer parts
I don't see why Amazon would complain that they are getting my money :(

i love it but beginning last October CT started making amazon charge tax on purchases. I also run a non-profit hackerspace , oddly enough when I registered us to receive donations through http://smile.amazon.com this past week I no longer get charged tax

You likely still owe use tax on items you use and are required to collect sales tax on the items you resell.
