No adult is going to look at these two pictures and hire you for anything. Do something about it.

When you say "business" (or buisness) what have you done legally to make it a real business in your locality ?.
Is it legal to do business with a 16 year old in your area?. Are you still in school ?. What do you do when you
get a call during normal business hours ?.

yea, not trying to be rude but looking at it from the customer standpoint, I wouldn't hire a 16yo.

As NYJimbo said, I highly doubt you can legally conduct business. You also can not enter into any contract with your customers when they sign any paperwork as you are not of age.

It is great to have the entrepreneurial spirit, but you should wait 2 more years and hone your skills until then when you can actually legally take money from people as a business. Or work for someone else, but be careful of non-compete agreements.

All that being said, you do have a good website and layout and it honestly seems you are really wanting to do this, which is great and we all wish you luck, but you need to figure out your legalities and also get over the sad fact that people look at 16 year-olds and assume they don't know anything. (edit: just wanted to clarify that this last line isn't a diss towards you or the skills you have, but how older people view younger people.)

have a look at CallthatGirl's posts on marketing. Lots of good hints on some free marketing esp on the social side.
To be honest you are not likely to get a whole lot of business customers because of your age. I would target the home user and push it through your school.

Is there a young entrepreneur scheme in your area? Based on your website design and apparent effort you should consider going forward for it if there is. It will bring you great exposure and open you up to lot of business techniques and potential customers.

I read this and could not stop laughing...I went to the link, saw the pic's but NYJimbo...what "exactly" do you suggest they do about it? Use other peoples pics? haha That was super....

p.s. was not laughing at the pics themselves...both of you are fine looking young men.

Not sure what to say to you guys. You may want to offer your services to people your age. But most adults I would think would want to deal with a "business" entity and someone who they feel could be held to account.

People wonder if I'm old enough to be doing this when I show up on site........ and I'm 30. I just look young lol. That being said, I really think you have to be 18 in order to legally go into business. Unless you emancipated, then it's just like your 18 I think except you can't buy smokes.

I would recommend to stick with friends and your family to help out until you are of age to legally be binding as a business.

Great start for you though....keep up the work.

Here are my honest thoughts on your business....

I am VERY glad to see young men like yourselves with the entrepreneurial spirit. That's encouraging and I like to see young people who are big thinkers and willing to work! Awesome, I'm sure your parents are proud of both of you.

Take this from a 31 year old guy who started a real estate company when i was about 19 years old. You are NOT going to be respected by most and if people know you are under 18-20, they probably won't hire you. I actually think having your photos on the site is a good thing. This is at least full disclosure. I think most everyone would be surprised when they met you and to be honest, many people might treat you badly and some might even turn you away. I know this is not fair. But the business world isn't fair. I also understand that you might have more knowledge and skills than alot of 30-40 year old folks in business but it doesn't matter. You have a long row to hoe when dealing with the general public in a professional service when you are sub-18-20.

What I would suggest is to market yourselves to friends, family, neighbors etc. They know you, they know how old you are and they probably trust you enough to put their pc repairs in their hands. Then if they refer you to other customers, that's great. They will certainly tell their friends, "Hey I've got this neighbor kid who fixed my computer and did a great job. He's only 16 but he started a business and is a very nice young man and very honest." That's great, now the potential customer knows what they are getting into.

Again, I know this seems unfair and you want to prove the world wrong. I'm also not saying this CAN'T work, I'm just saying that it might lead to alot of uncomfortable situations and some unhappy people when they find out your age. I might just try to keep this business small, be up front and honest about your age and market yourselves to your friends, family, neighbors and parents friends.

Just my 2 cents. Good luck and I wish ya'll the best!

Don't give up on your business idea, just find an adult to manage co-own etc. until you can take over.

Also, I'd be careful about using copyrighted images on your website (i.e. geek logo).

Also, may be just on my end but the top heading "
Bits 'n Bytes Computer Repair & Virus Removal - Jenison, Hudsonville, and Grandville's Cheapest Computer Repair" is overlapping the text beneath it in FF 3.6.3, Opera 10.53, and IE8.

In a marketing term: your Facebook says: " Bits 'n Bytes Computer Repair Printed off a bunch of fliers for computer
repair last night and stuck them in mailboxes this morning. Printed off a hundred more and are planning on putting them out on Monday morning or Sunday."

Just make sure you have a solicitor's permit if required by your town to do this.

Hope I've helped! Good luck!

First of all I'd like to thank those who wrote out thoughtful posts with input that is constructive.

Second, I am doing business with friends/local people we know at the time. I am experienced enough to handle alot and do know that I am sixteen.

For the fliers - if you put them in the newspaper box it is legal in my area. You cannot put them in a mailbox however.

Lastly I would like any input on how I can get people to trust in me and give me their business even though I'm young. I already offer the "No Fix, No Fee" but it might now be enough?

What do you guys think?

If there was a way to bet on young people who I think will one day be very successful entrepreneurs, I'd bet on you.

Hey thanks, I appreciate the compliment. I'm hoping to do well - I may be 16 but I don't need to pay for more than basic gas and a bit extra. I'm not shooting to make a ton but a few jobs at 25/Hr would not be so bad.

Again thank you.

LOL!!!!!!

I too applaud you for wanting to start young and it seems that younger entraprenuers are coming up quickly. Keep up that spirit. Let me just ask, is there an older adult in your family (that you trust-:) that can also help spearhead or represent you?

I'm also thinking too that if a new customer had to choose between an older person to work on their computer and a younger person, the older person would definitely get their business.

It will take time to grow to develop relationships with new customers outside of the people who already know you, just don't forget - you will need time. In the meantime, go with ideas of passing out flyers to put outside out there and just remember, it's going to take TIME but you're definitely on the right track.

It's nice to see young people trying to do things that will help them and increase their chances of being successful. You're not hanging out on a street corner or running around with a gang bothering people - you're doing something and that says a LOT.

Keep it up! Very encouraging to see!
