Adobe Reader 10 Crashing on Citrix Server

I am about to pull my hair out on this one. I have customer. They have a 2003 Citrix 4.5 server. Right now this server is the accountign system for many many nursing homes that are managed by this company. I have to get this fixed because at this point they can't even print checks to pay me!

At one time it was a physical server but It was converted to a VMWare Server running on VMWare ESXi. This conversion was done about 2 months ago when the company moved and we consolidated a bunch of there machines to one VMWare ESXi host. There has been no significant issues since then the conversion was done until now.

When they open a PDF and click print the option to choose a printer never comes up and the program crashes and goes away. We get the "Adober Reader has closed unexpectedly messages" Rolled them back to version 9 and it prints but the software they work from that makes the PDF's is incompatible with version 9. I have tried 10.1.2, and 10.2 and have the same issue. Originally they were on 10.2 with no problems for 2 months.

Logged in as administrator I don't have the issue, it works, so I gave a user administrative permissions but it still doesn't print. I have also tried wiping out the user profile and reseting them back to scratch and still have the same issue. I have rebooted the server several times, deleted temp files, ran a defrag, ran IOBit ASC.... Nothing is making a difference here.

Any Ideas?

Check to ensure curricular print manager service hasn't crashed. I've seen this on a few citrix boxes. It will look like its running in services but if you try to restart it it'll hang in stop. Had to use scquery to find the PID and taskkill to stop it. Restart and everything back to normal. Then search the citrix forums for reasons for the crash.

found this from another forum!

I found a solution to running Adobe Reader version 9.x and Citrix. If you grant users modify permissions to the documents and settings folder on the Citrix Server(s), Adobe Reader 9.x works fine.

might work for v10

Found an Issue but I don't know if the Fix Applies to me

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/928/cpsid_92870.html

This says that all network printers must have a share name. I have no network printer on the citrix server, all though the citrix redirected printers may kind of be considered network printers but there is no way to share them.

I created a network printer mapped to a standard tcp IP port and it made no difference. Every where I am reading it only seems to have started at version 10.1.2 and above. I found an old version 10.0.1. I am going to try that version and see what happens.

Also I don't see citrix print manager listed in services anywhere

I will keep you updated

Fixed!!! Wohooo!

I found that rolling back to 10.0 solved the issue. I rolled back on step at a time anything before 10.1.45 works fine. After that it blows up. I have submitted a bug report to adobe with all the details and logs I have collected. Hopefully they will fix it.

Thanks for all you help. Although nothing here was the actual issue it was going into the services that got me to think lets go through the event viewer logs one at a time and got me to probe deeper and google around with the event viewer error codes that led me to the adobe workaround that didnt' apply to me that got me to see it started at 10.1.45. My customer is happy and that is one fire extinquised. Now I am off to take a 1 hour drive on the ICE to another customer that swears one of my servers is making an alarm even though I have already powered off all my equipment and the alarm still goes off in the server room and it is comming from the alarm pannel, but the alarm guy just points the finger at me. Sometimes I wonder why everyone hates the computer guy!

I love technibble, I believe that working together there will be no shortage of work and we can all make money being our own bosses!

I may be wrong but there an issue as far as I remember in v10 something to do with security feature been brought in. I cant remember specific I will have double check but they had open adobe with out any docs
