Got an Acer Aspire 5535 in for repair at the moment with a black screen. I don't think its a problem with the screen or inverter but more the gpu/motherboard.

Having a quick look around Google and several website suggest a problem with the gpu and all the fixes are remove the heatsink, reapply some thermal paste, run the laptop for 10 minutes without the fan to get hot, then turn it off to let it cool down.

Anyone had any similar experiences with Acer's and black screens?

I really don't think you want to run the CPU for 10 minutes without a fan. :p

Most laptops will not run without a fan or will shut down. Besides any "fix" like this, if it worked, will last a few hours or days.

That's what I thought, running it without the fan would kill it :p Was thinking there is no way this could be the fix :)

I Had the same issue with a samsung 3D I7 system this morning, all tests pointed to the GPU so i went ahead and striped down the system. i ended up reballing the GPU (long arduous process) but it is working perfect now. not my favorite job reballing GPUs but in this case the spec made it worth the work
