We're located in a shopping center in town and share a parking lot with three other businesses. Just next door, only one parking spot away from what we consider to be 'our' spots (in front of our storefront), an elderly woman hit the gas instead of the brake and drove up over about an five inch curb, over the sidewalk, and into the side of the building.

As you can see, she was going fast enough to actually penetrate the wall completely into the store. Luckily no customers were in that section at the time, but she destroyed a card rack and I'm told several wind chimes. The employees at the front desk of that store apparently watched this happen, and then watched her nonchalantly back the car into the proper parking space and enter the building.

I was in the back at the time, I heard it happen but it was much louder up front and our office manager said she actually felt it. She was a bit shaken considering it was only about six or so feet from where she sits everyday, it defintely would have struck her. No one was hurt though.

Just thought I'd share some excitement with you all.

Thats why i think after 65-70 years old you should have to take an annual drivers test to renew.

agreed. I don't think licenses should automatically get taken away at any age (exept maybe 90) however the safety of everyone on the road (and within the walls of their business, lol) is at stake.

WOW. WHAT IN THE WORLD. Reminds me of an episode on America's Dumbest. When the lady in a car drove an SUV size hole in the storefront of 7-Eleven. Did I tell you that she was drunk out of her mind..lol

To be fair maybe she really needed to buy some last minute Christmas cards and didn't have time to go through the normal entrance.

It amazes me that this could ever happen...let alone how often it happens. I used to be "The Beer Man" (delivery/sales), and can recall seeing the aftermath of at least 3 instances of this happening at local convenience stores. One of my former coworkers was also filmed by a stores security camera, being missed by less than a foot while entering the store with a hand truck load of product..

Glad to hear nobody was seriously injured.

+1 respect to the plant, shaken but not stirred ;)

Those walls look shockingly thin, like they'd crack if just leaned on.

I was thinking that. If I was a robber I would look the other side of the wall during the day to see what was the other side and drive a vehicle through the wall. :D

Apparently the manager came out, shook his head, and said to the lady, "You know we have drive through on the other side of the building right?" :)

I am not sure you could call it a building, my garden shed has thicker walls than that  I doubt that would meet European construction standards as its very strict here.

The accident shows a major problem with automatics especially when older people get behind the wheel.
