look on ebay for what you want --- we picked up 4 FD100 units for less than $90ea with pin pads when we switched.... still use square for AmEx though --- 2.75% vs 3.25%
I want a stand alone reader to look professional
You're working out of your parent's basement... you've got bigger things to worry about than your CC terminal. Like I've said before, getting a CC terminal at this point in your business career would be a fiscal disaster. You do NOT process enough CC payments to make it worthwhile. What you need to do is accept payments via Paypal (at least until you get your smart phone), and use the money you save on Merchant Services fees to reinvest in your business.
No amount of professional servers or CC terminals are going to make you "look professional" while you're in your parent's basement. You're looking at things the wrong way.
really door on the back. leads to area. finished room where my office is its quite professional actually
It's still the basement of a private residence.
your point though? its a professional looking office
It's not an office... it's a PRIVATE RESIDENCE.
Trust me, you'd be much better off doing pickup/drop-off until you can afford a storefront. You DO NOT want customers coming to your parent's home... what about liability insurance? What about thieves? What about disgruntled pistol-toting customers??? Seriously, you're putting your parents at incredible risk doing this.
well I am not plaing for a storefront.. and its safe. you cant get withing 12ft of the house either side without being on camera and us being altered via text with a picture of the person(s)
There is a reason I did it out of my house for 3 months before moving to offices.... the $175/month including utilities was the BEST investment I ever made! when it was from my house I was doing mostly commercial work -- or pickup.... never had a customer come once --- although come to think of it I Could have.... my dad owned a trucking company so we were already licensed/insured, and it was ag zoned.
im the opposite.. I like the house and don't want to pick their computer up cuz nothing like pulling up to their house with a ford picktruck with a dump body on it with graphics blank blank Landscaping Services.... that's why I prefer they drop off and not use my landscaping truck for 2 business
Understandable --- is the landscaping biz out of the same residence?
Yes and no. I park the truck their but all the equipment is at a uhual storage center.
gotcha -- just curious, I was going to say if the landscape co had offices somewhere I'd try to at least get a sign there or use that address even if the work is done at your house..... but nvm.
ive been working on getting a small warehouse to store my stuff and a few offices.. nothing I could afford till im like 30.. the chapest one in my area that was perfect size (I forget how man sf) but was 450k to buy.. not happening ever..

I'm with you 100% here. I'm still running out of my house, doing both business and residential clients. Not having any overhead makes the first few years much easier and allows you to develop a client base and generate enough revenue to grow. Sure, I've lost a couple clients because I didn't have a storefront for them to come to... but if I'd told them to come to my house I'm pretty sure they would have hung up on me just as quick as they did when I explained that I only do pickup/drop-off. And what's worse... if clients didn't call me and instead just looked me up online and tried to find my address... a customer definitely wouldn't knock on a residential door looking for a business.
FIRST DATA: REJECTED! they said they cant offer it to me because they cant do a credit check because I have never had a credit card; giving me credit.
Not surprised there --- it's still difficult for me often times, and I now have LoC, had a truck loan, and had a few CC's --- bein 21 and only 3 - 4yrs of credit is tough - back when I first started the only way I got a CC was because I was a student at the university.
