[REQUEST] 8 monitor setup

Hey guys, I have a system build to do for a client, he just called me wants me to build him a setup for stock trading using 8 24 inch monitors.

I have built systems for stock trading for a number of people, i did one with Four 27 inch edge to edge displays

then another Four 24 inch edge to edge displays.

I always use firepro/quadro cards with display ports out.

On this build i am unsure if 1 card will do it. I found this card

Not sure if this card will be a complete LAG fest using 8 monitors

Or would it be better to run Two firepros

I would say the two-card solution has a much higher odds of being successful. The cost isn't that much more, especially when you consider what the total cost of this workstation is likely to be. No doubt high-end processor, NVMe SSD, 32GB RAM, etc. I would get my specs lined up and call the manufacturer - we do that all the time for special builds, you'd be surprised what you learn.

The NVS810 is just 2x GPU's crammed on one board. They are essentially GTX 750ti GPU's which have been crippled to fit within a lower power budget - so performance is ok but not outstanding.

You will find 2 separate firepro/quadro cards gives much better performance. Or any Nvidia card from the GTX 1060 up will support 4x displays at 1920x1080. I'm not up to date on AMD models.

A mistake I often see people make - you don't want SLI/CrossFire. The 2 GPU's should be working independently.

Thanks for the replies, will go with 2 Fire Pros, add some nice Noctua fans in the front of the case for improved air flow.

yea no SLI/crossfire, that would not be ideal at all.

When setting up something for a client like that, just go back and say "I can do this with one card and it'll probably work OK, or I can do it with two cards for $xxx more and it should be much more responsive. Which would you prefer?"

If it's for someone stock trading in ways that require 8 monitors, 99% of the time that $xxx is insignificant to them.

One suggestion if you have a 4k TV around: make sure those cards can drive 4k over HDMI and that you have an appropriate cable included with the system (even if not hooked up). In case of emergency, being able to say "I can have you back up and running using your TV in 20 minutes" may net you a loyal customer for life. The cost of including a couple of displayport to hdmi cables will be negligible.

Money not an issue, i do alot of high end builds but never had a request for 8 monitor setup, Done alot of 4 monitor setups for stock brokers.
Dual Firepros using all DP cables will do just fine. Going to hook the monitors up to their own UPS, so they are all on battery aswell.

I have spare HDMI cables, Converters to almost anything. Even spare DP cables. I keep my office stocked with spare parts.

Even have spare new in box mobos just in case from past builds i have done. (for business clients)

I've built quite a few systems that supported 8 monitors. I've always used 2-3 cards. Never tried a single card. To be honest, that would make me nervous. Even if it worked and performed well, I would worry about longevity. I did a 12 monitor setup for a guy using 3x cards and it was really finicky. Ended up going with 4x cards in the end. Still, that was many years ago and technology improves. Now I'm eager to buy that 8x monitor single card just to try it out and see if it works and what the temps are when running full board. Don't tempt me like that!
