Hi,

We have this client's Asus Laptop which resets the BIOS setting when it's rebooted. Checked CMOS battery, still in good condition. We've replaced the CMOS battery to no avail.

Any ideas?

Pins for the battery holder are not bent? Solder joints look good? I've had issues in the past where the connector was not making proper contact and BIOS would reset.

I will try to check on that one.

The holder looks fine. Tried a VOM tester to check the continuity of the contacts and all is good.

It's weird. It won't power up when I set the correct date and time shutdown, and power it up again. I have to remove again the CMOS battery for a few seconds and it will power on again.

I could not see any jumper near the battery or the CMOS chip.

I had a somewhat similar issue with an HP 17" laptop. AMD CPU. Would not post. Hooked up my POST card and it said it was stuck on NVRAM, something about copying values. Every now and then it would post. I replaced the battery as the old one was 3.1 volts and new was 3.3V. But in the end I couldn't get it to POST consistently. Seemed like a south bridge/north bridge issue when loading system NVRAM. Yours almost seems the same in a weird way.

Do you have a POST card you can plug into the WiFi slot and see what code its stuck on?
