Hmmm.... Let's not pass judgement. I have a 4TB connected via USB 2.0 to the NUC in the living room. It has my movie collection on it. No need for USB 3 really.

It's not so much the USB standard, 2 vs 3, but the USB2SATA bridge. I have 5 USB2SATA devices, all USB 2. Four of them will not see anything over 2tb, in fact they usually report 1.4-1.7tb so they only support 32 bit LBA. I bought the 5th one years ago so I could get access to the larger drive sizes. And let's not forget this also involves the motherboard as well. In theory to see anything over 2tb the entire chain needs to support 64 bit LBA.

Plugging a drive the uses 4K sectors into a dock that doesn't support it will get this result.

Low leveling a drive is always bad advice, that hasn't been necessary since the 486 went out of fashion.

Or it could be a typo (or typos). That being said, to me, there are other things that give me pause as far as qualification for membership, but I'm sure you've got your eye out now based on the degree of . . . how shall I put it? . . . interest.
If in doubt always use the drive manufactures free tool to check out a drive.
Never had an issue with big drives on usb2, but I have had issues with PCI Sata cards not likeing big drives 1TB and over with a boot lockup, hot plugging the drive once booted they would work fine.
Not that many years ago folks would try Linux which would format the drive in ext(n) that windows would not recognise when they gave up on Linux and wanted to install Windows they were stuffed !
The safe solution was to low level format the drive with the drive manufacts free tool rather than use an OS that was in it's early days
