GetMacApps – Quickly and Easily Install Multiple OS X Apps at Once

Shares

Installing apps on a Mac can sometimes be a long and tedious process, especially when dealing with your clients. As a technician, you have a lot to do in a day, and manually installing apps for your clients can consume valuable time in your busy schedule.
GetMacApps makes it easy for you to batch install multiple Mac Apps for your clients, usually, in under a minute.

GetMacApps allows you to select multiple apps from a list, simply by clicking the checkboxes. The apps are organized by category, and feature many of the most popular apps for the Mac. Some of the categories listed are; browsers, productivity, messaging and media. A full list of categories and apps is available at the developer’s website below.

After you have selected the apps you want to install for your client, some of which are freeware, shareware and commercial license, you simply have to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the large “Install These!” button. GetMacApps will then return a Terminal Command that you can run to quickly and instantly download and install the app(s) for your client.

Other than being a fast and easy way to install many apps at once, for residential clients, GetMacApps can also be used when you need to setup multiple new Macs for your clients, much like in a business environment where administrators would want all of the Macs in their company to be running the same software. You can easily obtain the terminal command, and simply reuse it on every Mac that needs to be setup with that configuration of apps potentially saving you a lot of time.

Well, depending on who came first, this idea has been stolen- either from ninite.com or from getmacapps. Considering it says, right on the site, “it’s like ninite for Mac”…

Looks like ninite was the first out of the gate?

Or is this the same co.?

    Hmmm…

    • Bryce Whitty says:

The Ninite domain was registered in October 2009, GetMacApps was registered in October 2012. Although thats not definitive since someone else may have owned the Ninite.com domain name before the current owners had it, or it could have been owned without anything on it for a while. Whatever the case, Ninite.com probably came first.
I dont think it really matters though, GetMacApps filled a niche that wasnt being filled. Good on them.

  • Tracy says:

It matters enough that they gave a nod to ninite. So, either it’s a kind gesture (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery), or it’s a bit of a dig?

And I agree that macapps fills the Mac niche- albeit in not so elegant a way as ninite, but at least it’s a a bit easier than a standard install.

I have to tip my hat to the ninite.com group, however. I do a lot of Windows reinstalls for family/friends & the site is a godsend.

Ninite has been around for much longer, and is a great tool for Windows. Absolutely they deserve a tip of the hat for a great tool and saving me tonnes of time. A Mac solution never came.

In fact, the Ninite reference is there mainly because I found that was the easiest way to explain the site to people.

Hope it saves you some time Tracy and thanks for the interest!

Do the urls always stay the same? As in, will the code still work a month after it was generated provided no significant changes were made to the site?

  • Ago says:

is there the same tool for Windows, where you can install Windows Apps at once?

your site is very helpful. im from philippines and i always visit your site. im new to computer servicing.

    • Ago says:
