windows 8 update issue similar to windows 7

We have had 4 Windows 8.1 machines not running the first round of updates after a clean install with more than a day of waiting. Any suggestions to fix this.

I had a problem with a W8.1 machine that had been sitting on the shelf for well over a year. For several days tried several stand alone roll ups, etc and none worked. So I finally setup automatic updates, rebooted, left overnight and in the morning is was good to. This is really annoying. I never have this issue with Linux or OS X or pre W7 versions.

vista has been taking several days to a week to scan. it is horrendous

Expect Vista 7 and 8/8.1 to be screwy. MS wants all on 10. I have 0 issues with 10 updates.

Vista is a very forgettable experience, just like ME. Yes, it is just as bad but, as mentioned, I'd forgotten how bad. I've literally touched one Vista machine in the last 3 years.
