Techs Who Repair Tablets/Mobile Devices: Where did you learn your skills?

Honestly, you tube is your best friend. My recommendation is to buy phones that are broken and repair each part by watching a video. It sounds silly but I regret going to the repair school I went to. Get over your fear of "i don't know what to do" and get your hands on some old phones. Everything i've learned from training could be found on that above sites and on youtube. I should have put the cash to parts, tools and supplies. Remember your dealing with electronics so be careful. One safety tip to remember is, when heating the motherboard be careful of heating capacitors. In the cellphone class I took back in 2013 the kid next to me was trying to heat the charging port to replace it. Instead of using a smaller tip that went above the charging port, he used a bigger tip on on his bga rework machine which heated the capacitors of the charging port. before you knew it there was a large bang and the kid had his glasses cracked in the middle. His glasses saved his eyes. From that point on I always wear safety glasses when heating up boards. (The kid wasn't really a kid he was in his early 20's)
So the sum up the schools are a great way to earn money but not worth it if your a student. Do yourself a favor and get some broken phones. Once you repair them on your own you will be better trained then any of those cell phone schools.
I've been to 3 thinking that somehow one may be better then the other but in reality they are all the same. You sit at some fancy table use cheap tools and start by taking broken phones apart learning the pieces and then putting them back together. Then you move onto doing the same thing in smartphones. Then u start using power supply's to turn on phones and multi meters to test. Then on the last day or 2 you begin heating up boards and soldering. Save your money invest in the tools, get some broken phones, watch and read on youtube and those sites and I promise you will be a better cell phone tech for it. The best guys ive seen learn from on the job training. Practice with dead phones and make them work.

iFixIt is a quality source. Many Youtube videos make you cringe seeing techs doing repairs on the corner of a counter with barely a square foot to work on. Then you practice on your own devices first.

I learned the steps from ifixit, I learned the details from a friend who also repairs devices. Having someone able to look at what you are doing while you are doing it the first few times can really shorten the learning curve.
Even now after doing repairs for over a year, we still help each other out by being a 2nd pair of eyes when either of us gets stuck.
