Managing computer inventory?

Sorry to start two threads back to back minutes within joining, but I'm also curious to see what everyone is using to keep up with their computer inventory.

Currently we are tracking serial numbers, age of machine, etc etc. I just took this over and right now it's in this horrible huge excel spreadsheet. I was hoping to find a better solution that's easier to maintain and report out of.

I found one Access database template from Microsoft for Asset management that I'm playing with now, but I'm wondering what the standard is out there.

I register each new pc in the FOG database ... works nicely.

Excel!!! Ouch.

You are going to have fun migrating that to what ever program you use. I would recommend using MS Access. It's a good program for that kind of thing. There is probably better but most companies already have MS Access. Unless your company doesn't mind buying new software.
