Linux app like locate, but for ext. drives?

Hello,

this is strange, i can not find how i can search my non primary HDDs (including external) same way (instant search results) like with "locate" Linux tool.
What Linux app to use to get instant results even on external HDD i am periodicaly connecting to the PC?
I am using Debian based Linux.

Looks like no one replied to this but for the record: If you're already using locate, you should be using find tool rather than locate. In debian you would be searching with "find /media/user/external_devices"

There is a discussion on extending loca's database to cover external drives as well:

Basically, tell locate to include mounted external drives in the indexing, when you run updatedb.
