[REQUEST] Laptop's webcam is upside down

Client has two old Asus K53E-BBR5 laptops.

One of them has an issue with the webcam - it's upside down. No issues with the webcam on the other unit.

He never used it before until recently for Zoom. It is upside down in all apps including the Windows 10 Camera app. The webcam is installed correctly - there's only one way it can go in. Laptop only has Windows 7 drivers for the camera that produce an error when trying to install - currently has drivers installed from Microsoft. There's no option in Settings to mess with the camera.

I suspect there's no fix for this.

I see that in Zoom you can rotate the camera. Or, he can use an external webcam.
 
I'd look into ordering a replacement either for the built in or just a USB one if the camera is necessary. I am not sure it is worth more effort than those options at this point. If you haven't verify that it is securely connected the driver issues and even upside down image issue could potential be do to a bad connection though I admit it would seem incredibly unlikely to be that simple.
 
Assuming there is no other driver to try, they're SOL. That issue is a function of software settings integrating with the driver, and the driver itself is where all this starts. 100% of the time if camera output is flipped or otherwise mangled, it's a driver problem.

And that driver is for Windows 7.

You might try this one from Lenovo, it's a Windows 10 driver package for Chicony cameras. I have no idea if the one you're working with is there... but that's the world you're in. Scouring the Internet for the right driver.

The laptop is old, originally shipping with Windows 7. For many reasons it's time to just replace it to be honest. I have a similar unit, the thing burns like a furnace and is shoulder ruining heavy.

I tried these drivers with no luck. Still shows it as having a Microsoft driver from 2006. It was smart of you to think about using these alternative drivers. Thank you.

Opened Zoom and it shows the webcam video in the correct orientation on the video preview in Settings > Video.

Also, the software lets the user rotate the webcam 90 degrees at a time, so he should be able to use his webcam.
