Yes, I'll delete the original one indeed.

I don't know if you have already solved this or not. But here's my 2 cents worth.
Sounds like Avast installed a network filter. Fairly easy to disable or remove.

Go to System Settings > Network. Should be fairly obvious if any extra installed "Network" devices are there and active. Disable the software ones "Avast" or any extra VPN ones. Reboot and test network.

I already used Markverhyden's suggestion about creating a new network connection and that worked.
