No idea what it's called, that's why this posts exists.

I need a nice piece of software (preferably ghetto and free (but not required)) to track customers and let me know about them to keep up to date?

such as calendar reminders, a notes section to put down things I need to remember about them.

It's for my second business, but it's a computer needed solution.

So basically a reminder software? It is recurring business or one-off service that differs for each customer? Are the notes just a few lines, or does it need to expand to pages?

Unless the needs are dramatic, I'm thinking you can do what you want with google calendar and contacts, frankly.

What you're looking for is a CRM - Customer Relationship Manager. There are a variety of free, paid and subscription options, many of which should be pretty polished.

Outlook makes a pretty poor CRM, but if you're a one man show it's really an inexpensive and easy to take care of alternative. CRMs only really make sense when you have a sales staff and you need customer contact details in a central location for an entire department to work on them together.
