Hello,

My wife Cannot remember her admin password on macbook. It's less than a year old and running the latest OS. Any help is greatly appreciated.:)

i don't know much about macs at all but i have had client get locked out of there own computers before because they could not remember there password. If it holds true in the mac world has it does in the pc world. You can get Herins 9.5 boot cd, boot into Herins and use the password/Recovery tool and it will delete the password from the account you choose.

best of luck

If its a Mac here is step by step what ya do...

1: Buy a shovel
2: Use new shovel to dig a hole in the back yard the exceeds the total volume displacement of the Mac computers case by 75%.
3: Place Mac into the hole being sure it is perfectly centered.
4: Use the new shovel to cover the Mac with the dirt you originally removed to create the hole....being sure to completely and evenly cover the Mac.
5: Stomp the area you just filled in to tight compact the dirt...packing may cause the need for additional dirt.
6: When the ground is tightly compacted and flush with the area surrounding it....find a nice place to store your new shovel.
7: Go by a PC.

You are done.....

I'd love to know if my post helped, as for the burial ceremony, I hear the funeral homes charge more for mac's :)

Actually I called the office and talked to a buddy who is out resident Mac guru...his advice was nearly identical to that in the article Abe suggested...

So looks like you were on point on this one Abe.

While you might have solved this already, my gut instinct if that since OS X and linux are cousins (since I understand it's based on BSD) there must be a way to get into single user root mode from the console. A little googling and it seems like you could get in quite easily. I myself would try the macobserver one first, but who knows. I'd be curious if any of these actually work without the cd as abe suggested. I may have to whip out my SLOW imac and try it.

Thanks everyone, Abe I have the install disk so I will give what you suggested a try and let you know. Thanks again everyone.:)

Hello,

Just wanted to let Abe know that the link he provided with recovery of the admin code does not work. Unfortunatley even with the recovery CD'S one of the prompts before reinstalling ask again to type in your password so that was no help. But of course I got a good chuckle when I got to the point where I thougt I was about to get to the utility to fix it and it asked me for what I needed in the first place. I guess I will google it and see what happens.

Thanks everyone, this is what worked for me:Disk 1. Insert the disk into your computer, then restart the computer holding down the C key until you see the spinning gear on the grey Apple screen. When fully loaded, go to the Installer Menu. There you'll see the option for resetting the system password. When complete, quit the installer and restart.:)
