I am trying to fix my mothers laptop. She has a zt3000 running XP. My problem is that my system clock wont stay set. It causing my web broswer to display " theres a problem with this sites web certificates. I need to fix this asap. I've already tried checking and unchecking the daylight savings box. I want to try to change up somethings in my BIOS. I dont know how to access it. When this computer boots it gives you the option F1O which is rom based setup. I went in it to see if there was something relevent to my system clock, but I didnt see anything. With that said, sometimes it takes this laptop 15-20 mins to boot. When it boots right up I get this message...the time and date on this computer is not correct.....something along that nature..but i click ok and the computer boots right up. I get this messge at the welcome screen. On the other hand when it takes forever to boot it will freeze on the welcome screen but right before the welcome screen pops up i get a beeping sound.HELP!

Try pressing f1 or f2 to acees bios once in set to correct date and load standard bios defaults. if after every boot the date and time reset themselves, then you probably have a dead cmos battery. other common bios keys are f12 del and esc

yes the battery on her computer is no good...she has to keep it plugged in for it to work...with that said...I do plan on starting my own computer business..I am in the beginning stages right now...Im just fooling around with a few machines until I start advertising.

Sorry, but you are not ready to advertise. "fooling around with a few machines" does not qualify you to start taking money from people for repairs.

Well don't take this the wrong way but if you wan't to learn about computers then i would say for your first lesson you should go and learn the difference between a cmos battery and a regular laptop power battery as they are two completely different components.

oh nun taken....you learn something new everyday in the it world..lol......and as far as taking money from people hell freakin yea im ready...I have been repairing computers for about two years now....but anyways...I have never came across this particular problem...and never heard of a cmos battery....but thanks tho...

Your initial post tells it all:

Hi...I am a computer programmer...and I have a little knowledge in tech skills..but I am here to sharpin my tech skills and share vital information needed in the IT world.

You are just another end user with some programming skills and plays with computers. This thread shows you cannot even figure out how to get into the BIOS or where to check for date/time relate problems. God forbid someone actually hires you to fix their computer with the little knowledge you have.

But don't worry, I will just put you on permanent ignore from now on.

Agree with NYJimbo; if you don't even know what a CMOS battery is, then you shouldn't advertise to repair computers. This is a very common problem and you should undoubtedly know what to do.

lol well guess what now i do know what to do...so it doesnt matter..the only thing that does matter is that i found what i was looking for.....**** likes this happens everyday to ppl all around the world...they run into problems in their field that they never encountered before...(shouldnt have to explain) but as long as they find a solution then no biggie....wtf this not even my field lol im crossing over into your playing field plus i have a solid foundation on writing software....u guys couldnt tell me one thing about writing programs....

wow....i am starting my own business...didnt say i was the best tech....with that said....it shouldnt matter as long as i want to improve correct???

Man I am all for some one getting better and learning more, but what do you mean when you say you are starting your own business? For all we know you could be openening a store front or just working on your familys computers.

I am starting my own repair shop...but I am offering more services than just your typical repairs...i am offering web services...and networking solutions

here is another rule::Remember that everyone has differing levels of business and technical knowlege. Some people are very new to the business and are here to learn more, others are very experienced have been operating 10 years. Do not flame a user for not knowing a certain topic, they are here to learn.

I'm pointing out the rules. It's up to Bryce to decide. My vote is that you be shown the door.

Just remember that old saying, you always learn something new every day!! :)
Don't think there is no need for anyone to be kicked out of here. Personally I think that people here could have been more diplomatic with there posts.

My friend I wish you luck with your business.
