Hi everyone,

After weeks of trying I finally landed my first customer!

I got a phone call yesterday from a business saying can I go and have a look because the computer keeps shutting down (his words for a BSOD).

After about 30 minutes of being there I had to bring it home with me to sort it out. It was a big pain because I kept finding more problems in the way of the fix I was trying to apply, but 4 hours later I'm £110 richer and they are happy customers.

Stupid drivers

Well done. Keep at it. Don't be afraid to ask them for referrals! Try dropping into the 10 closest businesses to your customer. Just drop off your card and a letter detailing what you do, saying something like "Could you give this to the person in charge of the computers please? I've just done a job for your neighbour, XYZ Ltd, they're very happy and I'm just trying to drum up some extra business." Don't hang about. Shouldn't take more than 1 minute per business, unless someone wants to talk - which one probably will.

Well the file efpwwf.sys which is part of ESET Smart Security Business Editions firewall at the startup was somehow giving the computer blue screens (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL).

The customer didn't have the files I needed to reinstall, and they didn't have any login information that I could use to login and redownload it. So he said take it off and install the version of Sopho he had there for me to actually use lol.

There was so many errors in the way, for example, all of the services had been disabled, so I couldnt use windows installer, I couldnt do windows update, I couldnt turn on Security center etc.

Plus the computer was sooooo slow, but got through it eventually

Congrats my friend! Where did you get your customer? I mean what form of marketing landed you your customer? Flyers, Advertisement, Biz Card, Google, Etc.. Keep track of what works now and build on it. Good luck and take care.

Nice one! Where did they find you?

I remember my first customer. I delivered some leaflets on a local housing estate, 30 minutes later my phone was ringing with someone wanting a virus removed.
