I recently installed a Xerox 6505 Workcentre in a small office , but I since discovered that it doesn't support SSL for email. This is a big problem as I now can't configure scan to email or the printer alerts system.

Can anybody give me suggestions ? I essentially need a mail provider that doesn't use SSL so that I can configure a mail address for the device. Alternatively if there is a software solution - I'm willing to try that too - I've seen some stuff about using SSL wrapper to capture the traffic but I don't think this will work in my case as it more for email clients and not peripherals.

Thanks in advance..

Thanks , that looks like it might to the trick. I wonder though are there any free webmail type providers out there that don't use SSL ? (I haven't been able to find one to date)

We sell this as a service tied to a domain on our hosting server (we sell hosting too). €5 per month or €49 per year + setup time. Let's say the domain is mybizsmtp.com - we set them up with an email account on that domain and use that as the sending address. We just use complex email addresses and passwords. The server supports both SSL\TLS and plain SMTP. You could offer it free for the first year with your printer sales.

Two other options are their ISP and their own web hosting.

A lot of MFPs don't...many are "behind the times" as far as what they're capable of doing.

What e-mail host is the client using? In many cases, you can setup a special receive connector with no authentication just for the MFP (if mail server is on the LAN)...or just for the offices WAN IP (if something like hosted Exchange...I do this with O365 quite a bit for clients).

Alternatively..since we service business clients, many years ago we filled the need for an SMTP service for our clients so we built a *nix SMTP server for the outgoing SMTP needs of our clients.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. The SMTP server is managed by the mail hosting company (register365). I think I may have a possible solution which they've provide me with this morning - I just need to schedule some time to configure it.
