This laptop flaked out last time on Windows 10 1607, so I continued running 1511. Trying again.

Just remember to remove any USB devices before upgrading, had a HP 280 desktop that failed several times to upgrade and it was caused a Logitech USB dongle for wireless keyboard

I left all USB items connected including the Dell Display Link adapter. The update completed, but I must say there seems to be a little bit of largeness in the mouse now at random intervals. It is nothing like it was last time I updated, but it is not smooth as silk like it was in version 1511.

I will just wait a little bit to see if it gets better on its own.

For 1607, I prefer a clean install. Too many times I've had issues with an in place upgrade.

I had all sorts of issues, but I think I resolved them. From black screen at the lock screen (i.e. no picture... until getting to the unlock screen) and the problem would flip-flop around when I would change the "Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen" to where it would be on the lock screen but then blank when I go to the unlock screen.

The default color became bright Violate...

The Mouse kept freezing etc.

The fix was for me to uninstall the Dell Touchpad (Synaptic) and RealTek High Def Audi drivers (from 2013) then run Windows Update and let it not only install the latest versions of both of those but everything else.

Using SigVerif, I did a before and after snapshot, and these are the files that changed... No idea what fixed my system, but ultimately it is running stable now.

This is a bit ridiculous, but at least Microsoft and the vendors are actively patching bugs. The config on the right is barely even usable. On the left it is a rock solid, stable setup.
