I just repaired a Dell computer and reloaded the OS. I created a dummy login so i could install the updates and add some software to the system. My question is how do you get the computer to prompt for new user name like when you first get an new system. I've searched the web with no luck.:(

Sysprep?

SysPrep

isn't that just for automating the setup. What i'm looking for is to have windows xp revert back to initial startup phase were it is prompting for your new login names.

I think you have to ask microsoft for this option because I think this can be done only by programming windows again.

You can change a setting in the local security policy to clear the last logged on username from the logon box, hence prompting for a new user.

Control panel, Admin Tools, Local Security Policy then navigate in the MMC to Local Policies, Security Settings where you will find an option "Interactive Logon: Do not display last username" which is normally disabled. Enable this.

Easier than reprogramming Windows. Geeksinroute, you having a laugh?

As someone who claims to be a Microsoft Certified Tech your conclusion seems a little naive. Do you really have 13,000 Techs working for you?

Looks to me like it's just a subcontracting company, and he is a registered tech. Doesn't even look like you have to do much to become a tech for them either....

hes got alot of gems to laugh from like this:

someone asking for links to sites to buy laptop dc power jacks and he responds with autopart suppliers
To be fair, that's understandable from a guy who has difficulty remembering his own first name.

I think he's just using Technibble for SEO and to "recruit" honest Technibble subscribers into his less-than-reputable business model, IMHO the guy's a (bad) clown. His company changes its identity every few months: http://nerdywork.com http://rentageekinc.com http://joenerd.com and of course there's the one he keeps randomly thrusting into threads on Technibble.

This makes interesting reading:

I'm sure we would all welcome your comment "Mr/Mrs Whitten".

I was Not aware about sysprep, and that is the reason I joined this forum gain more knowledge from you all expert here.

Do you represent Geeks In Route? If so can you substantiate your website claim of having 13000 Certified techs in your Arsenal?

$50k once you have earnt $50k in referral commisions, so by my reckoning all you have to do at $15 per new customer is refer 3333 new customers.

I'm not being nasty, I just would like Geek In Route to substantiate their claims, I also have a bee in my bonnet about poor service in the IT industry. Too many people in this industry portray a professional face but cannot deliver, it affects all of us who try to put in an honnest days work.

Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh and relax :D
