We all get this..."What windows version do you have" and the client responds, "I have Windows 2012" ....we all chuckle to ourselves, but at that point, we also know what type of client we have to service. With Windows XP ending, I have created some documentation with screen shots of the pictures of start menu buttons to help them understand if their computer is ending life.

Here is a simple blog I pushed out today and will put in my next newsletter. Feel free to use in your marketing if you feel it will help you and your clients.

I really love your blog site. Wish I was that talented with web based stuff. I have a lot to say, but a hard time using blog software. Yet, I can write a moderately complex Unix bash script in a short period of time.

Hey guys, as much as my wife loves watching soaps with me I don't really want to see it here. How about we keep this thread on OP.

A capital idea! But I must say, the thought of NYJimbo, of all people, wanting everything "sugar-coated" is making me giggle like a madman. :D

So, back to the topic at hand. I'd be interested to hear what kind of success you have with this, Lisa. I'm not having much trouble helping my existing clients to understand the importance of transitioning away from Windows XP, but I haven't yet come up with an effective way to market it to potential new customers.

I'm thinking about trying to get it covered as a news story in the local media. I may be able to catch the interest of a local radio host or newspaper reporter closer to the actual EOL date.

"If you click on the Start Menu and it opens with two columns of choices, you are using Windows XP."

So...what I had thought was Win7 Home Premium on my main machine is really XP? Good to know. :D

Hey, I see two columns. I paid for Win7, I want my money back !

Personally, I'm using Windows 8. Trying to keep myself current so I can support it properly.

I still have an XP box that I will keep until it dies, because I use it for testing software. NO matter how hard I try, there will always be people with XP out there.

You're right most people have no clue what OS they're running. I'll have them hit WinFlag + Pause/Break

I've been telling them 'you must like giving me money. You still have XP.' I say that in a joking haha sort of way, and then transition to the 'but seriously though, XP was great, but since MS is not going to support it any longer, we really need to get you into something else.' And usually that also means new equipment since XP was 3 OS's ago. 4 if you count 8.1.

I use Windows 7 Professional on my desktop and laptop.
I am happy to stick with it until Windows 9 comes out.
If Windows 9 has any good nee features, I will probably upgrade.
It is sad to see XP die.
