Windows Security asking for PIN to sign into AOL Mail

I have a client who has a Verizon email address that is accessed through AOL's email webpage. They recently got a new laptop and use Dashlane for a password manager.

Shortly after getting the new laptop the AOL email sign-in pops up a Windows Security message asking to sign in with a saved passkey from an iPhone, iPad, Android device, or a security key.

At which point they have to choose cancel and then after a few more clicks Dashlane proceeds to fill in the password on the log in screen.

They are not sure what caused this to start happening, but they like get rid of useless Windows Security pop up/cancel/try again/proceed scenario.

How do they stop this from happening?

I looked in the Windows passkey settings but AOL isn't listed as having one.

Check AOL's settings.

This is almost certainly the result of the end user having consented to use a passkey (and that's most typically going to be their PIN on the machine in use) to log in.

Yeah, looks like this is it. Unfortunately, clicking delete to delete the passkey in AOL settings doesn't work. AOL is aware of the issue and say they are trying to resolve it.

Which makes logical sense. It is the "verifying end" that agrees to the use of passkeys which is why I was virtually certain that it was going to be something that needed to be disabled on the AOL side. I'm actually surprised that you can't turn this option off just as easily as one can turn it on. Let's hope that AOL rectifies the situation promptly.
