Windows Repair Toolbox

Hi,

i would like to share with you guys / gals this little software I've just finished to write called Windows Repair Toolbox. It's basically a tool that:
- allow to quickly download and run some commonly used software when approaching a damaged Windows system;
- displays some relevant information about the computer (CPU temperature, name and % of use; amount of RAM installed on the system and % of use; amount of free space left in C:\ partition; Windows edition and install date)
- allow to perform some quality assurance tests;
- allow to run some automated functions.

It's still beta, and it should work with all Windows versions between XP and 8.1.
.Net Framework 4 is required.

Disclaimer: i'm not a professional programmer! I'm just a guy who likes to learn, but i'll try to keep up with this project...

This is a really great project Alexandre, thank you for sharing.

I couldn't catch from the screens whether or not you have a key finder built in, but from the quick transitions, this looks very useful.

You can use it to download and run ProduKey from Nirsoft: int the first tab "Tools", "Useful Tools", "Produkey".

You might also check out the windows all in one repair tool. A lot of folks on here like it. Saved me from a reinstall a couple of times.

Yes, it's a must have tool. It's already included under the "Repairs" section.

All the tools (with the exception of Combofix, that runs from the Desktop) are downloaded and will run from C:\Windows_Repair_Toolbox\Downloads. The entire directory C:\Windows_Repair_Toolbox it's then removed when the application is uninstalled.

Thinking I will stick with d7ii. I've messed with this before, but it lacks a lot of what I can with d7ii.

We have played with this tool the last couple of days. It is the consensus of three of us that it has some potential. Granted it maybe not as powerful as d7ii, but there are times when you don't need all of that power. It seems pretty intuitive. We like how you hover over the buttons and it gives info on it. It could use more automation. It is kind of like UVK but but seems somewhat easier.

What are your thoughts?

One thing I've asked Nick for previously is a high temperature alert on D7 or D7II.
Can't remember what the reason he gave for not wanting to do it though...
I love my D7II but always willing to try a new tool.

Alex, it's a great product. I like the concept it only download when you need it. I like the way the GUI is organize. It's easy to find and easy to follow. You have most of the tools that are I used. This is an excellent tool for remote support keeping it small and simple.

It would be nice if you can make a runtime version so we don't have to run setup. Also an option to remove the program upon exit not just the files that are downloaded.

Unfortunately, you also need a version where all the files are bundle together. When troubleshooting network issue, you might not be able to download the tools you need.

Also an option to "kill all non essentail processes" but leave this running.

Thanks for a great tool Alex !! It is nice and compact but with lots of useful tools.

Can you add Double Driver on your next update ? Also a portable version of your program would be great !!

Do you mean a portable version, with the option to entirely auto-remove at close?

As it works now, wrt installs itself and all needed files to "C:\Windows_Repair_Toolbox" and run from there. All downloaded files are stored in a sub-directory in that location as well. At uninstall the entire "C:\Windows_Repair_Toolbox" folder its deleted.

The program also stores a .config file in "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Alexandre_Miguel_Canotilh\ ..." that saves the user data (what you wrote in "Notes" tab, your checked checkboxes, and program settings - except, for security reasons, the entire "Unattended Fix email settings" section, that is never stored - ). This allow you to keep all that information after closing and re-open the program, and also across reboots and re-installs, for the case you need to work again in the same machine in the future. To the next version i'm planning to add checkbox in the settings that allow not to keep any settings.

As for the portable version, think i can create one that extracts all needed files to "C:\Windows_Repair_Toolbox" and runs from there without the need for a installer. At close a dialog box would give the option to entirely remove the program (it would remove that entire folder + the .config file).

Regarding the offline version, it's a very good idea, but i'm not planing to create that soon, because it would be huge and would require a enormous amount of time to keep it regularly updated! I included in "Tools" > "Repairs" > "WebRepair" a script, that is available offline, that attempts to repair a broken internet connection, as a workaround solution.

What do you folks think about the inclusion of a "kill all non essential processes" option?
Personally prefer to reboot in safe mode with network when needed, because i think it's safer. But if most of you think that it would be an useful feature, i will try to add it.

Thanks Dave! i see that the last version of this software is from 2010 and it only supports up to Windows 7. Nevertheless, i don't know this tool and it might be a good one. Anyone else using it? Should i include it? thanks!
