This is driving me mad.

Got a client with four PCs all with Norton 2010 installed three of them are connected via the wireless network and one via ethernet. All machines can ping the ethernet PC but no PCs can ping the others. Its all connected to the same wireless router.

I've tried turning the Norton firewall off and it makes no difference, I've setup trust levels in the Norton firewall to trust the IP addresses of the four machines. Each machine has a static IP address.

All machines are in the same workgroup.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Edit all PCs are Windows XP, a mixture of Pro and Home.

Did you turn off the firewall from within norton itself? I've found even when you do this it doesn't always work. I would try stopping the norton services themselves. Try it in safe mode too maybe. Can you put one of the wireless pc's on ethernet to test will it then ping the initial ethernet pc?

Going to connect them by ethernet and then by router. I think you are right though, its Norton not properly changing the firewall settings.

Norton is utter crap and is notorious for this sort of thing. Make sure you have selected file and printer sharing as an exception in the windows firewall also.

The windows firewall is disabled. What annoys me the most about this is I tried top flog him Bitdefender but he insisted he wanted Norton, as 2010 is actually pretty good at virus removal I purchased him four Norton licences instead.

At least it seems its not just me and I am going the right away about it ;)

You do have file and printer sharing installed and checked in the wireless connection properties right?

try uninstalling nortons and see what happens, if it works then you know nortons is your problem else you know to look in another direction

That will be the last resort, due to activations etc untinstalling Norton may not be simple as its multi licence. I have one key for three machines, and another key for the other.
